‘Deathly Hallows’ News, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Set Pics and Clooney as Ranger

Knightley done with 'Pirates' and sequels and remakes out the ass

(clockwise from top left): Dark Knight Blu-ray art, Mia Wasikowska on set of Alice in Wonderland, The Lone Ranger, Roger Ebert, Iron Man concept art, MGM logo, Kick-Ass set pic, “Deathly Hallows” book jacket, Quentin Tarantino

A LOT of new sequels and remakes were announced this week, here’s a list of a few of them with links to the source article or the film itself on RopeofSilicon:

On top of all that we learn Rachel McAdams will play the lead female in Sherlock Holmes, Pixar’s Cars 2 has been bumped to 2011 and Newt moves to 2012, Spike Lee said Anthony Hemingway may be directing George Lucas’s Redtails about the Tuskegee Airmen and while Johnny Depp may be down for a Pirates of the Caribbean 4 it sounds like Keira Knightley is done with it.

Some rumors have George Clooney as a potential star for The Lone Ranger starring opposite Depp who will play Tonto.

George A. Romero is making yet another zombie movie.

Yahoo has some Iron Man concept art and the first look at the cover art for The Dark Knight Blu-ray and Batpod Blu-ray are online.

Roger Ebert responds to an idiot with the following response in his Answer Man column:

Question: Yo dude, u missed out on “Disaster Movie,” a hardcore laugh-ur-@zz-off movie! Y U not review this movie!? It was funny as #ell! Prolly the funniest movie of the summer! U never review these, wat up wit dat?

Ebert’s Response: Hey, bro, I wuz buzier than $#i+, @d they never shoed it b4 hand. I peeped in the IMDb and saw it zoomed to #1 as the low$ie$t flic of all time, wit @ lame-@zz UZer Rating of 1.3. U liked it? Wat up wit dat?

Set pics of Mia Wasikowska as Alice in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland are online.

There’s also a crushed cab from the set of Kick-Ass over here and even more here along with comic comparison.

A bomb threat at MGM? Did the Weinstein’s have anything to do with it?

Speaking of Weinstein, there are some 11-year-old Harvey Weinstein and Quentin Tarantino taped phone calls up at Defamer that don’t paint Robert De Niro in a flattering light at least not from the opinion of those in the conversation. At one point Tarantino says, “Tell Bob not to call me yelling and screaming . . . I don’t know if I’m going to be nice [if] the guy calls up yelling and screaming at me like a maniac, calling me a [bleep]er!”

IESB is detailing some footage they recently saw of The Surrogates and Prince of Persia.

Finally, the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows script is half-done and word is Half-Blood Prince will be getting some edits due to mixed reviews from early test screenings.

Thanks to SlashFilm, FilmDrunk, SuperheroHype, CHUD, Ain’t It Cool News, HPANA, IESB, Defamer, Variety, Yahoo and Bloody-Disgusting for contribution to this report.

Spike Lee never said he would be directing Red Tails, he said that Anthony Hemingway would be.

Brad I always respect your opinion and I was wondering what do you think about this thread from an awardsdaily forum. It’s only three pages and it won’t take you long to read it.

About Johnny Depp and these new flicks.

I agree with the person that said, "This thread has nothing to do with Johnny Depp being involved in a Disney flick, just another common hater thread to bash and insult an actor which derived from personal bias and hatred against his personal gain as a movie star."

It’s a very hypocritical thread. People have a right to be dissatisfied by Depp taking on roles they wish he had passed on, but to call him a whore for doing it is a bit silly. I am tired of Depp and Burton teaming together, but that doesn’t mean I won’t enjoy the next film they make together.

What do you think?

Johnny is one of my favorite actors and like Denzel I have been dissapointed with the projects he’s been choosing. I do think it is a bit silly to call him a sell out and I agree with the poster that said maybe he’s doing it for his children. But I do wish he’d do something that you wouldn’t expect him to do. I am excited about Public Enemies though. I also sort of think that if he did pick projects like Leo or Brad they’d say he was oscar whoring. I guess the fact that some of them were fans and now have no respect for him sort of blew me. Like, really, why am I only dissapointed and not outraged?

Strangely enough, I think before Pirates of the Caribbean I think you would have said all of these films would have been unexpected. Don’tcha think?

hmm I never really thought of it that way. I guess you’re right of course with the exception of Alice with Burton.

I think Clooney would make a great Lone Ranger to Depp’s Tonto!
