Daniel Day-Lewis as Guido? I Guess that Works

I still think Robert Downey would be the best pick

Daniel Day-Lewis
Ever since seeing Federico Fellini's I have had something of an infatuation with it. It is a fantastic film and the thought of a remake is something that certainly intrigues me. However, Rob Marshall's musical remake inspired by the broadway version of Fellini's classic isn't exactly what I had in mind. But I guess it will have to do for now.

The film is called Nine for those of you that haven't been paying attention and recently Javier Bardem had to drop out of the lead role as Guido Contini. This is a role tailor-made for Robert Downey Jr. but it seems my wish won't be coming true as Daniel Day-Lewis is now in negotiations to take on the part.

Lewis would be joining Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench should he sign on. The screenplay was adapted from the stage musical by Michael Tolkin with a rewrite done by the late Anthony Minghella.

The production hit a snag due to the writer's strike and a firm start date has not yet been announced.

As for Day-Lewis getting the role or not, the Weinstein Co. isn't quick to confirm telling Variety, "Any of the names being thrown around is pure conjecture, and when we're ready to make an announcement, we'll let you know."
