‘Dance Flick’ Comes from the Spawn of Satan

The Wayans hate you and you love 'em for it

I wasn’t going to report on the news from The Hollywood Reporter about a new movie called Not Another Not Another Movie which will apparently be a spoof movie of spoof movies such as Scary Movie and Meet the Spartans. The flick is going to star Chevy Chase, Burt Reynolds, Vinnie Jones, Michael Madsen, all to be referred to as “People With No Shame” from this point forward.

There is no real reason to report on the film other than to call it stupid and ask, “Who would want to watch that?” However, considering Scary Movie 4 made over $90 million and Meet the Spartans made over $38 million I can only assume there are a lot of people out there that line up for this crap. But I think the line has now been drawn with news from MTV that the Wayans brothers are making a dance movie spoof flick called Dance Flick that looks to be spoofing Step Up, Hairspray, How She Move, Save the Last Dance, High School Musical, etc.

The Wayans are an endless punchline for critics and the media, but that isn’t stopping them from scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to movie ideas:

“Basically, it’s ‘Step Up 2′ on the streets, and our Tracy Transfat character, who’s kinda like the big chubby girl from ‘Hairspray,’ got tossed into the air and lands on the car from ‘How She Move’ and blows the windows out, and so that’s the ending of the big ‘Step Up 2′ dance scene,” Shawn Wayans said of the setup, somehow managing to forget the living parodies of “Save the Last Dance” and “HSM” standing to his right and left.

Perhaps the worst part of Dance Flick is that neither Shawn, Marlon, Keenan or even Damon Wayans is directing. Instead they have passed the torch to Damien Wayans whom I can only assume based on the name is at least partially the spawn of Satan. This will be Damien’s debut and it has 666 written all over it. If you were thinking that this new Wayans may have a different take on what comedy means and what is actually funny, guess again. “I see all of myself in Damien,” said Shawn of his nephew. “He steals me basically. He’s a thief. He stole my soul. I stole Keenen’s soul. Lil’ Damien stole all of our souls.”

The tagline for Dance Flick has got to be something like, “From the Spawn of Satan comes a film from Hell!” It only seems fitting.

Now, here’s the poster for Dance Flick as debuted by MTV, what a lucky exclusive this is. And I thought the Wayans had no pride.

Wow. Thank you for this, helping to further show how awful and unfunny these types of movies have become (because it seems some people still can’t tell just from the wretched trailers and movie titles). I laughed at the poster editing :)

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely hhaatee date movie, meet the spartans and all those by those two loons! But I have respect for the Wayans brothers, I think this will be pretty funny, they were only responsible for Scary Movie 1 & 2 and I thought those were funny.. the ones post that and all the other in the movie series were by friedberg and seltzer who ruined the definition of spooof! I have faith in the Wayans brothers, I think it could be funny, common you must of laughed at scary movie 1 & 2?
