Cruz and Kingsley Join ‘Elegy’

Film is based on Philip Roth's novel

Production Weekly is reporting that Ben Kingsley and Penelope Cruz are set to star in Elegy, a film based on Philip Roth’s 2001 novel “The Dying Animal” for Spanish director Isabel Coixet.

The article reports that the story is an erotic adventure that evolves over eight years into a story of grim loss. Kinglsey would play David Kepesh, a TV culture critic, who meets college student Consuela Castillo (Cruz) during a lecture he is giving. A relationship of sorts begins that ultimately sends Kepesh into “the depths of deforming jealousy.”

Filming is scheduled to begin six weeks of principal photography April 24th in Vancouver.
