im a big fan of both ive seen all the dragon ball series, movies, and games. and i've seen the street fighter shows and played all the games. but the story to this dragon ball is a total let down. it shows monks making rhe dragon balls piccolo looks like a demented version of the mask and goku is already like 18 in this movie its quite messedupits not even a new story its just completly out of context to the original story. streetfighter will be only good for a fighting movie the trailer looked not bad as a story line but hopefully itwill be better than the disgrace they are making out of dragon ball.

"Street Fighter," hands down. The actress is way, way under par physically to carry a character like Chun Li. She won't be remotely believable in the fights and if they don't care enough about the character then why should I ??

I really did not recognize anyone from street fighter except K Kreuk-
DB has more well known names Fat ,Rossum ,Marsters, Du Kim , it also has better story & frankly I'm more interested in DBE despite it flaws! since its fresh to cimema,
Hopefully Wong will keep the pacing fluid as Chow had wished.

Another difference between Street Fighter and Dragonball is Street Fighter being based on a video game and all has a lacking of a good story with fighters NOWHERE near as stong as the Dragonball fighters not one bit…

Dragonball on the other hand is more like a comic book movie where you got the hero and the villian battling each other, yes you may see some other fighters in the trailer but their just supporting characters they DON'T have any superstrength as Goku nor Piccolo do plus Dragonball came WAY before Street Fighter so Street Fighter was inspired by Dragonball.

Here's an idea, see the movies than make an opinion of them. You can't judge a film by a trailer or just assume it will be bad. You must see a movie before you can say it is good or bad. Street Fighter can have an awesome story, and Dragonball might be a fun movie, but they have not come out yet so who knows? As for changing the story of Street Fighter or Dragonball for the movies it is a good thing because it gives people something new.

@Jason: Let's define a few terms first, shall we? Promise and potential, defined in Hollywood-ease simply means projected money intake and sequel potential. Second, you might just be overlooking a few people in your star list. Might I remind you that Micheal Clark Duncan is playing Balrog (refer yourself to The Green Mile, Daredevil, Sin City, etc if you need proof), and that James Marsters, Neil McDonough, and Kristin Kreuk all have impressive careers in the entertainment business. You don't have to be "movie star" to be in a movie. Often times it's much better to cast lesser known actors to fill roles like this so that the essence of the character isn't lost in the name of the actor portraying him or her. Finally, Tekken is not breaking any new ground by casting asian actors. I really hope that you're not insinuating that Goku should be played by an asian actor. Keep in mind that Goku is not Asian. I'll repeat myself, Goku is not an Asian. Goku is an extraterrestrial, he's a saiyan. Therefore, there is no earthly equivalent as to what race he, or any of the other saiyans, actually is. And, as for Justin Chatwin, anyone who acts opposite Tom Cruise (scientology jokes aside) and Tim Robbins, two huge stars, couldn't be that small of a name.

Star attraction? Besides Chow Yun-Fat I don't see any big stars. Are you calling the guy from the Invisible and Lana Lang from Smallville stars?
I hear Tekken actually has Asian actors playing Asian parts. I'm not saying it will be good, but based on what I've seen from these two trailers, I cannot imagine it being any worse. Nothing from the trailers remind me of their respective franchises.

@Jason: you can't seriously think that the upcoming tekken movie will be anywhere near the quality of dragonball or street fighter. let's face it, the first street fighter movie tanked because of character overload. now the question, have you seen the cast for tekken? there's maybe a handful of characters that aren't going to be in the movie, can anyone say "didn't learn the first time?" while these previews are not the final cuts (shoot, they aren't even the american cuts) both films show promise and potential, and lets not overlook the fact that both of these films are on fox's 2009 hotlist and have major financial clout and star attraction. as far as iconic cartoon-to-film adaptations, there's a real short list of quality eastern properties to choose from, and street fighter and dragonball are right up there at the top.

I think Street Fighter does look OK but I'm not a much of Dragonball fan myself,
There was a World Heroes fighting game back in the 90's and I think that World Heroes would go into a live action film set in the future when a Cop tries to stop Dr Brown from travelling to dimensions in a time machine.
World Heroes could be a good action martial arts science fiction movie based on the video game and I think Darkstalkers could go to the big screen by the same film creators of the Mortal Kombat movies.

i honestly think street fighter will be better. yea, it doesn't look like it has a plot, but at least it seems that they stuck to the story and origins perhaps a bit better. Dragonball is simply going to be garbage. They do not have the origins right, they are lacking characters, the story-line is out of whack. Unless I am missing something, a good portion of what makes dragonball dragonball is gone and without it they are going to lose profit from a lot of die hard fans (not like that wasn't already known) as well as gain very little new fans. Both films do not look great, but Dragonball simply looks disgusting.

I don't really think DragonBall Evolution will be so bad. It will probably be pretty good actually. I personally think it was a pretty good idea to take plot elements from the entire series and put it together in a different fashion. Otherwise, we'd practically know everything that is going to happen (who hasn't at least seen DragonBallZ, let alone Dragonball?)

I feel the need to break this down a little bit:

1. School part of the story;taken from when Goku's son Gohan goes to school. (DBZ)
2. Piccolo as the villian: taken from the king piccolo saga (DB)
3. Various Characters; Bulma seems to be less winey. That's a good thing. Chi-Chi seems to be a combination of her when she was younger and Gohan's girlfriend Videl. It seems they made Gohan and Goku the same person in the movies.
4. The Dragonballs: they certainly look good.
They kept a lot of the powers I see, like the kameameha wave.

Dislikes:
5. Master Roshi doesn't have white beard, not a pevert.
6. Where is Krillin?

I really hope it doesn't flop; I want to see Vegeta on screen.

As for Streetfighter, well obviously it's all about the fighting. It can't be that bad, really. These are probably the same people who didn't think DOA; Dead Or Alive was a faithful and right-on adaptation, and it was.

In my opinion I think Dragonball will be worse between the 2 movies. On the other hand, both movies will have something in common. Both movies will be a FLOP. If I was the casting director for both films, I will go out and find me real martial artists and have Yuen Woo Ping be the fight choreographer.

They will probably be as bad as that Dead or Alive fiasco from a couple of years ago, unless it's in the original anime, video games and anime don't translate well to the big screen, the mediums that spawned them allow for any setting or situation to happen, live-action is too constricting, that's why we may never see an evangelion movie!

You can't campare Street Fighter to Dragonball, Street Fighter is based on a video game where you have all these random ass fighters fighting each other, Dragonball is based on a comic book about a young boy named Son Goku trained by his Grandfather who has been killed… later teams up with a young girl named Bulma in seach of the Dragonballs before the evil emperors, organizations and ailens could lay their hands on it.

Both movies will be bad. We've decided this already. But here's the thing: "Street Fighter" looks boring. It'll be a bad movie, one that takes itself far too seriously, like "Bloodrayne". At least "DragonBall" will be entertainly bad- so bad that you'll just laugh at how hokey the special effects are, how stupid Goku looks and how terrible the whole production is.

As a fan of both series, and looking at the trailers, I'd say that Dragonball will end up worse. Both look pretty bad. But Dragonball's effects look like Spy Kids/Dragon Wars/B-Movie level. Street Fighters fight scenes at least look more entertaining, even if it will be just as unrealistic and badly choreographed. And like Ethan, I also like Kristen Kreuk (sp?) better then that Emma Watson chick. Both seem to be lit and shot badly, and too dark for both films/series; and of course the obviously bad and corny writing that was inevitable for both films.

But yeah, both will sadly stink.

Wow, I have to say that I was not that impressed when I first saw the Dragonball trailer. But seeing it AFTER the Street Fighter trailer makes it look way more interesting. I agree with an earlier post, at least Dragonball looks like it has some sort of plot. This opinion is purely judged from what I have seen in both of those trailers. My general opinion before and after seeing the trailers remains unchanged: both movies will tank.

Is Street Fighter only about Chun-Li? Will the other classic fighters (Ryu, Ken etc…) be in the movie as well? Or did I just miss it in the trailer?

Actually, I take that back. As cheesy and campy as it is, Dragonball at least looks like it will have a plot. Street Fighter? Nothing but fighting. And they ripped off the music from the trailer to Pirates of the Caribbean 3. Which is saying something.
