Craig Gives in to Zwick’s ‘Defiance’
A WWII flick with these two? Sign me up.

Just by telling me that Edward Zwick is going to direct Daniel Craig in a World War II action-drama is all I need to hear to think this is going to be a good movie. I am a big fan of Zwick’s, particularly his last two films The Last Samurai and Blood Diamond, and Craig is altogether good and we saw that in his fantastic portrayal of James Bond and not to mention as XXXX in Layer Cake, a film I liked a lot more than others did I think.
This new picture is titled Defiance and on top of directing Zwick will also pen the script. As of right now Paramount Vantage is in advanced negotiations to pick up the rights to the feature which leads me to believe it won’t be filmed as a major blockbuster as the small studio offshoot is more prone to release smaller indie films.
Defiance is based on a true story and tells the story of a band of Jewish resistance fighters. The film follows four Jewish brothers living in Nazi occupied Poland who escape into the forest, where they join up with Russian resistance fighters in battling the Nazis and trying to save the lives of other Jews.
The budget is reported to be around $50 million and filming is expected to begin in early September, which means filming in James Bond 22 is likely to be pushed to late 2007 if not 2008 with a release date of November 7, 2008 already set.
Other war films Zwick is responsible for are Courage Under Fire and the fantastic film Glory.
