Variety is reporting that Chris Cooper has just enlisted his services as the commander of an elite Marine sniper unit in the bigscreen adaptation of Anthony Swofford's Gulf War memoir Jarhead.

Cooper is joining an already large list of names including Jake Gyllenhaal, Jamie Foxx and Peter Sarsgaard in the Sam Mendes directed feature, which has already begun shooting.
