Come Watch the Coen Brothers Short Film 'World Cinema"

A good way to spend three minutes

Anne Thompson at Thompson On Hollywood has just posted an entertaining three-minute short directed by Joel and Ethan Coen that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007 along with 32 other shorts in the Chacun son cinéma.

The short is called "World Cinema" and features Josh Brolin in full-on Llewelyn Moss form as he decides whether he is going to watch Nuri Bilge Ceylan's Climates or Jean Renoir's The Rules of the Game and Grant Heslov (director of The Men Who Stare at Goats) plays a theater employee helping him make his choice. Brooke Smith ("Grey's Anatomy") also appears at the end.

Give it a peek directly below.

Damn, it may be really short but I got 100x more enjoyment out of that than Transformers 2.

Hahaha! Not much of a storyline, but then again, it's only three minutes, and a cowboy finding his way into an arthouse theater is certainly one hell of a funny thing to imagine! And I agree with the first poster: I would rather watch this short over and over again for 150 minutes before I saw Transformers 2 again.

Every single thing the Coens do, including three minute shorts, is just terrific. It also provides further proof that Josh Brolin is the man. For whatever reason I laughed really hard at "TurkIC?"

Am I so much the product of a society built on marketing, or can I say that I am intellectually curious? Whatever, I've added these two to my Netflix queue and will try to watch them soon. Good job, Coen siblings.

The Brothers Coen are beyond brilliant – aren't they? I was so sad when the 3 minutes and 17 seconds ended because I would have loved more.
