Cinema Audio Society Names Sound Mixing Noms
I'm pushing for 'WALL-E' in this one...

During Comic Con in 2007 Disney had a panel where Ben Burtt was on stage going over all the sound details for WALL•E. Personally, I was bored out of my mind as Burtt played a bunch of beeps and boops, but I know a lot of people were interested and loved the presentation – especially since Burtt is well known for his work on the Star Wars and Indiana Jones films. However, that doesn't stop me from realizing the sound in WALL•E was phenomenal; the work put in by Burtt and his team is top notch and WALL•E is one of the five finalists names by the Cinema Audio Society as they announced their Sound Mixing nominees from 2008.
The list of nominees goes as follows:
- The Dark Knight
- Iron Man
- Quantum of Solace
- Slumdog Millionaire
- WALL•E
Out of those five WALL•E would be my personal choice and I don't see how it can't be the front-runner. Of the five films listed WALL•E was absolutely dependent on the sound achieving the highest of goals and it did just that. Not to say the others didn't depend on it, but if WALL•E's eye movement doesn't sound just right at the end of that film does it have the same impact? I hope WALL•E will be the front runner for both Sound Mixing and Editing come Oscar nominations.
Winners for the Cinema Audio Society award will be announced Feb. 14 in the Crystal Ballroom of the Millennium-Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.
