The ‘Choke’ Poster Arrives

'A dirty minded satirical psychotic comedy'

IMPAwards has debuted the poster for the film adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk’s fantastic book Choke, but it doesn’t exactly do all that much for me.

The film did quite well at Sundance winning the Jury Prize, which I am sure you can see from the poster. The exciting news (for me at least) is that Choke is showing at the Seattle International Film Festival, which means I am going to get to check it out very soon as opposed to having to wait for its, now, September 26 release as it got bumped out of August. I still remain as reluctant as I was back in August when I said, “In my opinion, the only way for this story to be told, and told properly, is in an NC-17 rated film.” I am still of that opinion and will remain so until I see what they do with the story.

For now, however, let’s just look at the poster and try and figure just what the hell it means. You can click here for the extra large size if that helps and I put the synopsis at the end of the article for even more assistance.

I really don’t get this poster… at all… Because Victor doesn’t eat any girls, at least not like that… unless they mean “head” first, but that is just kinky…

Choke follows Victor Mancini, a sex-addicted med-school dropout, who keeps his increasingly deranged mother, Ida, in an expensive private mental hospital by working days as a historical reenactor. At night he runs a scam where he deliberately chokes in upscale restaurants to form parasitic relationships with the wealthy patrons who “save” him. When, in a rare lucid moment, Ida reveals that she has withheld the shocking truth of his father’s identity, Victor must enlist the aid of his best friend, Denny, a recovering chronic masturbator, and his mother’s beautiful attending physician, Dr. Paige Marshall, to solve this mystery before the truth of his possibly divine parentage is lost forever.

You read the description and it seem completely mad and bizarre and I must say I’m intrigued.
The plot sounds just crazy enough to work.

Oh man, you have to read the book if you haven’t done so already. It is freaking wild and by the time you get to the end you won’t even know where to begin when trying to describe it to someone.
