Check Out the Trailer and Poster for ‘The Reader’

Are we thinking Oscar after this?

The trailer for Stephen Daldry’s The Reader has just arrived online and you can watch it below or over at Apple.com in high definition.

The film stars Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes and opens in post-WWII Germany when teenager Michael Berg becomes ill and is helped home by Hanna, a stranger twice his age. Michael recovers from scarlet fever and seeks out Hanna to thank her. The two are quickly drawn into a passionate but secretive affair. Michael discovers that Hanna loves being read to and their physical relationship deepens. Hanna is enthralled as Michael reads to her from “The Odyssey”, “Huck Finn”, and “The Lady with the Little Dog.” Despite their intense bond, Hanna mysteriously disappears one day and Michael is left confused and heartbroken. Eight years later, while Michael is a law student observing the Nazi war crime trials, he is stunned to find Hanna back in his life – this time as a defendant in the courtroom. As Hanna’s past is revealed, Michael uncovers a deep secret that will impact both of their lives.

I have been tracking The Reader for quite some time as it has had its ups and downs due to an “interesting” bit of post-production, but it looks like it will be able to hit its December 10 release date and I am sure the Weinstein Co. is hoping it does well with the Oscar voters. They really need a stroke of good luck and early buzz on this flick says it may be the answer to the Weinstein’s woes.

You may also notice the first poster for the film attached to this article just to the right and the movie has received an R-rating, but the exact reasoning is not yet known.

Just did a quick check on the novel this is based on.
Quite a powerfull story that’ll make you think.

Having Fiennes and Winslet can’t hurt either. The acting wont be a problem.
