‘Charlie Wilson’s War’ Looks Like a Losing Battle

Are you ready for a Cold War rom-com?

Talk about a movie that has taken any interest that I may have had in seeing it and flushing it down the toilet. First Universal releases the trailer for Charlie Wilson’s War and it looks like some light-hearted affair that just happens to be about the Cold War and now we get this new poster from Coming Soon and it looks like it is No Reservations 2 with Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts.

I can just hear the Universal marketing team, “Maybe if we make it look like it is You’ve Got Mail meets Pretty Woman we can get everyone to go see it…” Instead it looks like they are just trying to cover up the fact that it is about war since war movies are - like - so out these days… like I’m soooo sure…

So we get a grammatically incorrect poster… “Who said they couldn’t bring down the Soviet empire.” Yeah folks, that one has a question mark in it… And we get a goofy Phillip Seymour Hoffman in the background, who is either playing a CIA agent or Larry Flynt’s personal recruiter… I can’t tell.

Anyway, here is the poster and Charlie Wilson’s Laugh Riot hits theaters on Christmas Day.
