Casting for Zooey, Messing, Gugino and George

Janis, Night, Gangster and 'Wife'

First in this little hottie casting update is Zooey Deschanel as Production Weekly reports that she is set to portray Janis Joplin, the undisputed queen of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll, in the Penelope Spheeris-directed indie film which is eyeing a November start in Philadelphia.

Next is the little UK hottie Melissa George whom you may remember from the Amityville Horror remake and her stint on “Alias“. Variety reports George has been cast as the female lead opposite Josh Hartnett in Sony’s horror adaptation 30 Days of Night for director David Slade. The film is based on the 2002 graphic novel created by Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith. Story is set in Barrow, Alaska, where 30 days of continual winter darkness make the town the perfect feeding ground for vampires. Shooting begins this month in New Zealand.

On the Debra Messing front we have her set to star in the USA network six-hour miniseries “The Starter Wife,” based on Gigi Levangie Grazer’s bestselling novel. Messing stars as a divorcee on a quest to redefine herself after years of marriage to a Hollywood studio head. That goes into production in Australia later this year.

Finally, from BlackFilm is word that Carla Gugino has joined the cast of Ridley Scott’s American Gangster. Set pics here.
