The Casting Couch: Oct. 2, 2006

Hey, people are in movies!

We begin a lazy day of casting news with word that Kelly Preston and Stuart Lafferty have joined Kevin Bacon and Aisha Tyler in the 20th Century Fox drama Death Sentence. The film centers on a father (Bacon) out for revenge after his family is attacked in a heinous gang-initiation crime. The father acts on his own sense of justice by going after each person involved in the crime. Tyler plays a homicide detective who aids Bacon's character despite her growing suspicions that he might have committed murder. Preston will play the wife of Bacon's character and Lafferty will play their son. [Variety]

Some new casting bits come from Variety as they list off the names for a pair of Fox Atomic releases. First off we learn that "Laguna Beach" series sexpot Kristin Cavallari is aboard the Revenge of the Nerds remake along with Chris Marquette and that kid that played the son in The Hills Have Eyes remake, Dan Byrd. Marquette will play the leader of the nerds, and Cavallari a sorority girl alongside Katie Cassidy. Filming begins on October 9.

The other bit of casting has Carl Weathers, Matt Lawrence and Brooke Nevin joining David Koechner in the Tom Brady directed film The Comebacks, a story about the losingest football coach in history (Koechner) and his attempt to redeem himself by leading his team of misfit players to victory. Filming begins October 11. [Variety]

Doom director, Andrzej Bartkowiak, is in negotiations to direct the thriller Black and Blue for Emmett/Furla Films. The pic revolves around a Boston detective who is desperately trying to combat an escalating drug war between an old-school Irish mob boss and a group of young thugs, only to learn that some of his family members might be involved. The sequel comes 23 years later as it begins production in November with filming to take place in Montreal. Finally, Michelle Williams will star alongside Ewan McGregor and Hugh Jackman in The Tourist a thriller in which McGregor plays Jonathan, an accountant disconnected from life, who is reinvigorated by his new friend Wyatt (Jackman), a powerful and charismatic lawyer who introduces Jonathan to a mysterious sex club known as The List. Shortly after meeting the woman (Williams) of his dreams, Jonathan becomes the number one suspect in not only the woman's disappearance and possible murder but also a 20 million dollar theft. The pic is being directed by Marcel Langenegger and begins filming in New York next month. [New York Daily News]
