'Captain America' Finds His Storyteller

'Narnia' scribes pull duty on 'The First Avenger'

Marvel has done well in their second turn in keeping their next big superhero in the news cycle as news screenwriting duo Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have been brought aboard to pen the script for First Avenger: Captain America based on the 1941 Jack Kirby and Joe Simon created comicbook superhero. Markus and McFeely both contributed to the first two Narnia films as well as the Ben Kingsley 2007 starrer You Kill Me.

The news comes 9 days after director Joe Johnston was named as the film's helmer, but there still remains no word on who is being considered for the lead role of Steve Rogers a man deemed too frail to enter the Army, but through a secret 'Super-Soldier Serum' he becomes a perfect specimen. Following his transformation he sets out as Captain America in a war against evil. Captain America is also the leader of the superhero group knows as the Avengers, which will be getting their own feature film adaptation bringing together the likes of Iron Man, Hulk and Thor.

As I have mentioned before, Matthew McConaughey's name was once bandied about as up for the role, but that rumor was quickly squelched. I have read other fanboys offer up names such as Ryan Phillippe, Matthew Fox and Josh Hartnett, but I doubt we will be hearing any real names until the script is finished.

Captain America, along with The Avengers, is set for a 2011 release so no production plans have been announced. Captain America will be the first to hit theaters on May 6 with The Avengers following closely behind on July 15. As of now Robert Downey Jr. is the only one confirmed for The Avengers. The other Avengers team member set to get a film of his own is Thor with a tentative July 16, 2010 release date. Kenneth Branagh is the latest name speculated to fill the shoes of director on that flick, but that news has yet to be confirmed.

When it comes to Captain America, can you guys think of an actor that best fills the shoes?

There's a lot riding on this one.
How do you get Cap up to modern movie-goer standards when it doesn't fit the character.
When you look at the other recent marvel movies the characters all had something dark and/or vulnerable.
The man/hero is a living stars and stripes allways motivated, positive and inspiring.

But if you dont get human factor in you end up with a Captain America movie like the one from 1990. Which is a big no no.

I thought Brad Pitt or Leonardo Dicaprio were up for this role. I really can't Leonardo doing this though. Brad I think would…

Personally I think Jason Statham would be really good. Only he's actually british. It could fit in some way though; super-solidiers are an american created idea. So he's joining the "American Way."

This is going to be a hard one to cast, let alone get right.
I think they'd be better of having someone else lead the avengers.
And also not to spent too much money on this one.
