Can We Finally Say a 'Piranha' Remake is Underway?

Stupid is as stupid does.

On June 7, 2005 the first report of a Piranha remake was announced by Variety. On October 27, 2005 it was mentioned again. Now, on January 11, 2006 it seems it is going forward and with Dimension Films set to distribute the "soon-to-be" failure domestically.

For the life of me I don't understand why the Weinstein brothers think this is a good move, but as of right now Chuck Russell is set to direct a remake of the 1978 horror feature Piranha from a script he wrote using elements of drafts by Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger, as well as the original John Sayles script that Joe Dante directed the first time around.

Spring time has been designated the official production start, just wait for the unknown names to come rolling in.

I have no ill-will toward this movie and I don't hope it is a failure, but I just can't see it succeeding.
