If "Avatar" can do that, I will give it my money 4 or 5 times, as I did with "The Dark Knight" this past summer. Anyhow, I'm finally convinced I'll need to see it at least once; past that depends on if the story is good enough to draw me in again and again. I'll never forget when I saw "The Matrix" for the first time - I was blown away; however, what made that film so special was that prior to its release it basically flew under the radar and took everyone by surprise. Now we have "Avatar" which, aside from "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Matrix Reloaded," is possibly the most hyped film of the decade. Hopefully, it'll knock us all off our collective-asses. I'm not sure about this film living up to all of the hype. BUT if it does HOORAY!!!!! However, like I said it’s not going to happen. And that’s not because I think that Avatar is going to be the greatest thing to ever happen and its release is going to herald world peace. How many films with big build up really come through? Let’s not restrict ourselves to new movies either, consider the flick your buddy says is F’n awesome and you watch and its just ok. How often do you see the hype fulfilled? It is unfortunately not often enough in a business where every week of the summer another film is lauded as “HUGE” or “AMAZING”. This living up to the hype is a complete metaphysical impossibility.
