Cam Gigandet Takes His Career to a 'Priest'

Half-vampire sherriff teams with a warrior priest

I received a crazy email recently regarding Priest, the upcoming adaptation of Min-Woo Hyung's TokyoPop comic book, but unfortunately I ditched it not knowing it would come in handy so quickly. It had something to do with how the story was being treated all wrong, but since I am not familiar with the source material of the horror Western I had no reply. Perhaps some of you can enlighten me in the comments?

However, I can pass on word Cam Gigandet has joined Paul Bettany in the Scott Stewart directed production according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film centers on a warrior priest (Bettany) who disobeys church law by teaming with a young sheriff (Gigandet) who is part vampire and a priestess to track down a band of renegade vampires who have kidnapped the priest's niece.

This adaptation has been around for quite some time and at one point the two lead roles were occupied by Gerard Butler and Steven Strait (Sky High) with Andrew Douglas (The Amityville Horror remake) aboard to direct.

Screen Gems will distribute.

As for Gigandet, he is coming off the heels of Twilight and Never Back Down and has already lined up roles in another Screen Gems thriller called The Roommate with Leighton Meester, Danneel Harris, Minka Kelly, Matt Lanter and Frances Fisher. He follows that up with Easy A, a comedy that follows a high school student (Emma Stone) who, after being ostracized by a false rumor she's loose, uses the rumor mill to her advantage, pitting puritanical students and teachers against their liberal counterparts.

This just gave a 'What If?' moment about the now abandoned HBO series of Preacher. It could have been great.

Yeah, the only thing this article did was to remind me of Preacher(and what could've been) too.

So I supposed Steven was originally cast to play the young sheriff, part vampire, but not in it anymore. I think Steven looked more like Jacob Black in the Twilight movies than a vampire, just too bad he wasn't cast and hasn't done any movie for a while.

What a lot of bull shit. This once again is not the movie that goes along with the comic book from Min-Woo. This is a comic from the 80s, titled the same thing, which was quite horrible. If they where making this movie it would be about a priest who sells half his soul to take down a fallen angel, it has zombies and demons not f-ing vampires in it. If anyone had actually read this comic then they would know that this is wrong and is not gonna make a good movie if it is indeed based on Min-Woos great graphic novel, plus the comic isnt even finished, so how would they do it anyway.
