Broadcast Film Critics Announce Their 2008 Winners

No big surprises outside of one...

The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) announced their winners tonight and have one surprise and one major blip if you ask me.

The surprise would be Kate Winslet winning Best Supporting Actress for The Reader. I say this is a surprise only because so many have Penelope Cruz locked for this category for her performance in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. I, however, am elated to see this win as Winslet was the Best Supporting Actress in the RopeofSilicon 2008 Awards. So kudos on yah Kate, let's carry it to the Oscars.

The major blip I refer to is an actual tie for Best Actress as the BFCA awarded both Meryl Streep (Doubt) and Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married). Sorry crix, but if you want to take over as a bigger award show than the Golden Globes, like I keep hearing, you are going to have to be able to do one simple task — MAKE UP YOUR MIND!

Other than that, it's a big win for Slumdog Millionaire taking Picture, Director, Composer, Writer and Dev Patel took Best Youg Actor. The rest of the winners are listed below, thanks to Awards Daily for the list. You can find the list of nominees right here.

Best Comedy Movie: Tropic Thunder

I'm happy Slumdog won it. Personally, my vote should I have one would've gone to Wall-E, but Slumdog was my (close) no.2 fave of the year with that little trash compacting robot edging it out for no.1

I would've gone with The Dark Knight, but Slumdog Millionaire would've been my realistic choice to win.

My vote would've gone to Wall-E. I have no qualms though with Slumdog winning, It was a very good film.

It was quite a predictable awards show, in my opinion.

BRAD: HOLY Guacamole! Except for the tie in actress (which I said was a tough call), the major awards (best picture, best actor, supporting actor, supporting actress, and director) are EXACTLY like I predicted in the comments under the contenders column (or one of these OScar race columns)! Either the Broadcast Critics cribbed off of me or…I'm basically the next Amazing Kreskin. The images and predictions flooding into my mind are, well, mind-boggling. I think you'd better consider hiring me (how's the pay?) as a prognosticator for your films department.

Slumdog is a good, yet highly overrated movie.

The acting awards is really what I have predicted: This is my ultimate pre-cursor to the OSCARS, lock in people!
Actor: Sean Penn
Actress: Meryl Streep or Anne Hathaway
Sup. Actor: Heath Ledger
Sup. Actress: Kate Winslet (The Reader)

I will go for MILK for best picture, Slumdog was fine but overrated.

If Meryl wins SAG & Globes, she is the sure winner for best actress for OSCARS.

I love this movie awards season!
