Box-Office Wrap-Up: May. 30 - Jun. 1, 2008

It was a very sexy weekend at the box office.

You've got to like that pick, eh? I was the lone gunman on the side of Sex and the City this weekend and it turned out I was right on. Oh yeah, there's going to be a ton of me patting myself on the back this wrap-up.
#1 movie predicted correctly: 6 Weeks In A Row
Wow. Eerily reminiscent of a little film called 300. For that one predictions were 30 to 40, anything higher was folly. Then wham! But the reasoning is simple on this one - there are easily four million Sex and the City fans. They each recruited someone to go to the movie with them. Mystery solved.
Result: 55.7 million (My rank: #1, $7.6m off)
That's a beauty too, she fell just like I figured. B-Luv owes me a buck because he had Indy taking the gal pal flick. Never underestimate the under served audience though. They were thirsty!
Result: 46.0 million (My rank: #2, $1m off)
This is frustrating because I called the fact that there hadn't been a decent horror flick in... forever. But I wasn't man enough to follow through on that logic.

(Editor's Note: There still hasn't been a decent horror flick in... forever.)

Result: 20.7 million (My rank: #5, $10.3m off)
So, of course, this is going to screw up my order. Ugh. Anyhow, B-Luv mentioned a Sex sequel which is an interesting notion. I don't think it would open up anywhere near that $55m number because the ladies are inured to over-saturation. Many of them are calling this version the finale. But you never know what a studio will trot out for cash.
Result: 14.0 million (My rank: #3, $1.4m off)
I was close on the number at least. That's at least half the Oracle battle right there.
Result: 13.0 million (My rank: #4, $1.1m off)
Back on track! But of course I also underestimated (once again) how man people feel rage towards the world and want to be punched.
Result: 6.8 million (My rank: #6, $2m off)
I chalk this up to teen girls buying tickets to this and seeing Sex and the City instead. No, I am not joking.
Result: 2.2 million (My rank: #9, $.7m off)
They are playing a ton of baseball movies this weekend on Bravo. Major League, The Natural, and so on. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Bravo, Bravo (channel)!
Result: 2.1 million (My rank: #8, $0.6m off)
I will use my once a month "pass" here.
Result: 2.0 million (My rank: #7, $.4m off)
Ten for ten in the top ten! The Visitor didn't screw me this weekend. The Natural is on TV and I'm headed out to a tasty brunch in a few minutes. This is turning into the "Summer of Laremy" all over again.
Result: 1.0 million (My rank: #10, $0.3m off)
