Box-Office Wrap-Up: Jun. 20 - Jun. 22, 2008

Get Smart did well. Hulk, Guru, and Happening plummeted.

Get Smart almost hit $40m... a result that would have made me look much smarter. As it stands there are a few surprises this weekend, let's break 'em down.
#1 movie predicted correctly: 9 Weeks In A Row
Still, they've got to be happy. The show is long forgotten and this one benefited from Guru's total collapse.
Result: 39.1 million (My rank: #1, $7.8m off)
A very strong showing, only a 35.4% dip. It seems to me that Wall-E would have been far better served opening this weekend. The dollars were clearly there for it.
Result: 21.7 million (My rank: #4, $2.4m off)
Wow. That's a hell of a drop. My only thought is that there really aren't all that many Hulk fans in the world. The true believers were out opening weekend and nothing was left behind them to pick up the slack.
Result: 21.5 million (My rank: #2, $7.6m off)
Yowsers. That's an old fashioned beating. The general public has spoken and they have said "No more stupid characters from former "SNL" cast members." Well said general public!
Result: 14.0 million (My rank: #3, $9.1m off)
A 67.2% drop from opening weekend is filthy. I'm not sure what B-Luv is smoking to spin this as a positive result. Word of mouth here must have been just awful.
Result: 10.0 million (My rank: #5, $5m off)
And we're back on track! A nice result from Indy but it's mostly due to lack of competition for the family buck. Again, I'll mention Wall-E would have dominated. Can't be overstated.
Result: 8.4 million (My rank: #6, $1.1m off)
Did I hit this exactly? Yes. Yes I did. I'm not looking for an award, though I clearly deserve one.
Result: 7.2 million (My rank: #7, $0m off)
It stands at $271m worldwide which is good news for the gals. I hope they all negotiated some back end monies, it's not like jobs are falling out of the sky for them.
Result: 6.4 million (My rank: #8, $2.3m off)
I'm finishing strong here. Next week is Wall-E vs. Wanted. Clearly that's two very different demographics and I'm sure I'll end up underrating Pixar and overrating Jolie. Kind of the story of my life actually.
Result: 4.0 million (My rank: #9, $1.1m off)
It's pleasing that Narnia finished 11th, just like I said it would. Man, if I get any better at this I'm going to retire. Who will take over the Oracling family business then? Perhaps a dartboard or a magic 8 ball? The possibilities are endless. And on that note, see you Thursday friends!
Result: 1.9 million (My rank: #10, $0.7m off)
