Box-Office Wrap-Up: Jul. 4 - Jul. 6, 2008

Hancock performed as expected, everything else faltered.

Pretty good three day prediction, right? I mean, if you don't pay attention to the numbers after the first slot that is. Curses. What a bummer. Anyway, let's break this thing down.
#1 movie predicted correctly: 11 Weeks In A Row
Still, they've got to be pleased. $107 million free dollars from an unsuspecting public. You've been duped, people! This movie was trash.
Result: 66.0 million (My rank: #1, $2.6m off)
What happened? Why did this falter so? It must have been that whole July 4th on a Friday thing. People skipped the movies in favor of BBQs and fireworks. Can't say that I blame them.
Result: 33.4 million (My rank: #2, $11.7m off)
Almost a 60% drop. Yikes. I can blame them for this. What happened guys? I thought we agreed you'd see this one. Ah well, it will make $100 million easily at least.
Result: 20.6 million (My rank: #3, $10.7m off)
Now I'm pissed. Where is that Kit Kittredge? You parents with daughters really let me down this weekend.
Result: 11.1 million (My rank: #5, $.7m off)
Ugh. And now everything else is going to be thrown off. You don't realize it out there in world wide web land but I take a lot of crap for bad predictions. B-Luv is going to have a field day. Fantastic.
Result: 7.5 million (My rank: #6, $1.5m off)
Hey look, one slot off! That's fun! So then, to recap: Kung Fu Panda has made $193m while this new Hulk has taken in $124m. Does that mean there are more fans of Panda movies then there are Hulk-a-maniacs? I'm just saying.
Result: 4.9 million (My rank: #7, $.6m off)
Hey look, one slot off! That's fun! Man, this whole Iron Man vs. Indy is close domestically. $312m to $307m with Downey Jr. out in front. Internationally Harrison leads by $160m though, so don't get too excited.
Result: 3.9 million (My rank: #8, $1.0m off)
I got thrown off by an A.O. Scott article in the NY Times. He made it sound like this was an important movie. I should have considered the fact that he was 100% off.
Result: 3.6 million (My rank: #4, $10.2m off)
I'm officially fatigued. Still, $145m on a $65m budget before the DVD comes out means they are popping champagne every weekend at the artist formally known as New Line.
Result: 2.3 million (My rank: #10, $.6m off)
Sad. This beat Guru in a battle of who sucked less.
Result: 2.0 million (My rank: Not Ranked)
