Box-Office Oracle: May. 4 – May. 6
Spidey will break the opening weekend record. I think.
#1 movie predicted correctly: Zero in a row
1. Spider-Man 3
It doesn't matter that the negative reviews are starting to roll in. The public is HUNGRY for any sort of real movie. They've been saving their money since 300 and the dollars will be released in a torrent of what I like to call "The Biggest Opening Weekend Ever." Plus, it's got the most theaters ever, 4252, and it's already mauling overseas. Go get em' general public!
Estimate: $142.4 million
2. Lucky You
A very bad movie that will only make money as people face sold out Spidey screenings. So in a way it was brilliant scheduling, eh?
Estimate: $12.6 million
3. Disturbia
The studio, at this very second, stands about $10m ahead of their budget. That's not factoring in DVD sales or any of the other monies they'll scoop up in the next few weeks. A very good result (finally) for D.J. Caruso.
Estimate: $5.4 million
I was told that there were actually ads all over the place for this. I guess my TiVo is doing an exceptional job this month, remind me to pay the bill in tribute.
Estimate: $4.6 million
5. Hot Fuzz
Did you know Hot Fuzz has made $48m at the foreign box office? Good Lord, I was looking at that $13.4m domestic and feeling bad for them. Now I'm thinking sequel!
Estimate: $4.1 million
6. Fracture
Us movie writers have now put Gosling on our radar. From there he goes to "buzzy." Next, super-stardom. All because he made one little flawed movie where he was actually stand-out solid.
Estimate: $4.0 million
7. Next
Even Paramount must be chuckling about this. Sure, they'll loose many millions of dollars, but you have to respect how definitively the public said "Hell No."
Estimate: $3.6 million
After seeing all the old Andy Samberg shorts I'm now more jazzed for Hot Rod then I am about anything Willy is working on. It's a sad state of affairs around my Ferrell fanclub.
Estimate: $2.6 million
It's just about time to say goodbye to this proud little animation. If they want to start a sequel fund I'll chip in $20. I got to see this one for free so that only seem's fair.
Estimate: $2.5 million
10. Vacancy
Welcome to the Laremy lounge. Here's the other thing I don't get, why not get Kate some nudity? Isn't this a horror? Why do films keep trying for PG-13 and suckdom? Oh, crikey, this WAS rated R and still no Kate nudity. Screw you guys.
Estimate: $1.6 million
