Box-Office Oracle: Jul. 25 – Jul. 27, 2008

Dark Knight will win by a lot. Again.

#1 movie predicted correctly: 1 Weeks in a Row
It's horn tooting time! My favorite time of the week, when I get to correctly predict everything under the sun including the results of the 2008 presidential election (Obama by 8%). Now, as for this film we clearly have to ding it because everyone saw it last weekend. So it comes down to return visitors and folks who were shut out last weekend.

I'm calling for a 54% drop. Two percentage points either direction wouldn't surprise me.

Estimate: $72.8 million
It will do better than it should because people are starved for comedy. All that Dark Knight grit has people thirsting for laughs. Curses, now I've used both "starved" and "thirsting" in the same paragraph. That's just poor form.
Estimate: $24.7 million
It will do worse than the 1998 version for one simple reason: It's been ten years. I'm not sure if anyone around Fox noticed that – guys, it's been ten years. What happened? Anyway, it's looking sad panda-ish for Scully and Mulder.
Estimate: $20.0 million
I've got to drop it 55% on the basis that there can't be that many more fans in the wings. We've got to be talking about a limited data set here, right? RIGHT?
Estimate: $12.4 million
Right now I'm at Comic-Con so this version is abbreviated. You know how that goes.
Estimate: $6.6 million
So it looks as though it will get damn close to $400 million worldwide. Once that happens I say we hold a party. No, only kidding. The studio insists only that you buy the DVD too.
Estimate: $5.9 million
No one is defending Hellboy 2 these days. Those folk are all gone, washed away against Dark Knight Oscar talk. Btw, how much of a buzzkill was that Bale arrest? On the other hand, no one should be stepping to Batman, no matter the circumstances.
Estimate: $5.0 million
It's made $190m worldwide but they haven't done much overseas yet. But the budget was $180m so…. that's not good. Looks like the Wall-E DVD push is going to be epic.
Estimate: $4.4 million
This, on the other hand, has made a whopping $10m total. No production budget was released but I'd imagine it was around 80 cents. At least I hope it was.
Estimate: $3.4 million
10. Wanted
$220m worldwide on a $75m budget. I think they owe me some money though, I gave it an A grade. That's a couple million bucks right there. I'll take my normal 10% please.
Estimate: $1.9 million
