Box-Office Oracle: Jul. 11 - Jul. 13, 2008

It's The Oracle vs. the rest of the Internet as he picks against Hellboy II.

#1 movie predicted correctly: 11 Weeks in a Row
The streak is in world class trouble this weekend. History suggests that films coming off a July 4th opening drop like stones, but I need Hancock to bleed less than 55% to have my winning weekend. But the main reason I'm taking Hancock to win isn't Hancock or history at all...
Estimate: $28.9 million
I just can't take Hellboy II to win. I can't do it. The film is terrible, and while that shouldn't affect my prediction I want to believe there are less stupid people in the world that will support this. And will this make much more than the first one (which didn't do all that great for the genre)? I have only questions. If it finishes first then down goes my three month streak.
Estimate: $26.3 million
If WALL-E didn't have over 1000 theater counts on Journey to the Center of the Earth then this might be a real race. As it stands more people see this due to the extra locations. Insightful, I know.
Estimate: $17.6 million
An enjoyable kids film. It only had a few solid 3-D scenes (wish it had more) but there really isn't anything to hate. Weird, right?
Estimate: $16.9 million
I'm putting it at half a Norbit. Even the dumb people are starting to come around on Ed Murphy.
Estimate: $15.1 million
I was sad to see this one bite pavement last weekend but I'm looking forward to the unrrated DVD in a big, big way.
Estimate: $9.0 million
Theory: This summer hasn't had a big comedy yet. Possible solution: August?
Estimate: $5.4 million
I told everyone I know to see this but in hindsight I've probably overrated it now. You just have to understand that it had been months since I seen something that wasn't terrible. Perhaps I got too happy.
Estimate: $4.0 million
This movie made very little impact on pop culture.
Estimate: $2.4 million
Ditto. However, it happened for very different reasons. With Indy people cared but the movie wasn't there. With Hulk it was a decent movie but no one cared. Things were never just right for either. And next week they'll both be banished from the top ten... forever!
Estimate: $2.3 million
