Box-Office Oracle: Apr. 18 – Apr. 20, 2008
If Sarah Marshall doesn't win the box office I'm gonna be pissed.
#1 movie predicted correctly: 0 Weeks in a Row
Oddly enough I haven't seen this. But I've heard it's good. Plus I think people are starved for a comedy right now and Al Pacino wandering around getting random cell phone calls isn't going to cut it.
Estimate: $21.6 million
It's been too long since I've gotten the top slot correct. Two weeks in fact. Now, I could get beaten again – this here film has Jackie Chan and Jet Li. However, I think it's going to have a strong Friday night and then trail off as word gets out that it's a DVD (at best) effort. The problem is it's far more of a kid's film than an adult Kung Fu one.
Estimate: $19.5 million
3. 88 Minutes
I originally had this doing Vantage Point dollars but then I nudged it down a smidge. It's only getting 2k theaters which means it can't win the weekend. Thank God.
Estimate: $11.0 million
4. Prom Night
B-Luv mentioned the plot to this one was preposterous too. It makes you wonder how they can deliver something like five years of C.S.I. but can't manage one 90 minute murder mystery.
Estimate: $9.9 million
5. 21
The only good thing to come out of this movie was the song "Time to Pretend" by MGMT.
Estimate: $6.5 million
6. Nim's Island
I always think of Nimrod's Island when I hear this title. That's not an actual movie mind you; it's just hearing Nim makes me think of a Nimrod. Man, I really need to start getting Oracle sponsored, this stuff is gold I tell ya!
Estimate: $5.9 million
7. Street Kings
Oddly enough this film is way more logical than 88 Minutes. It's also a bit boring but at least they aren't just making stuff up a la Pacino and company.
Estimate: $5.8 million
Less than two weeks away from Iron Man. Eyes on the prize. Don't you give up on me now movie lovers!
Estimate: $3.2 million
9. Leatherheads
If you see this chances are you will give up. So don't see it, even for money.
Estimate: $2.9 million
10. Smart People
See? Who says we only talk about blockbusters? No one you know has see this and yet it gets equal time here at the bottom. Whadda country.
Estimate: $2.2 million
