Box-Office Oracle: Oct. 30 – Nov. 1, 2009
This is It will win. But by how much?
Sorry, this segment has been brought to you by every NFL announcer ever.
I turn it over to you, alert commenters, let's get this thing done.
Box-Office Oracle: Oct. 30 – Nov. 1, 2009This is It will win. But by how much?#1 movie predicted correctly: 0 Weeks in a Row
I won't act like I feel great about this prediction. But it's where I'm at, $15k per theater, nearly 3,500 theaters domestically. You guys had predictions ranging from $30m – $50m last weekend, does Wednesday's $7.5m make you reconsider? I don't think it can go much higher than my call, but I could see something in the $40s happening if all the rabid fans see it before the weekend even gets here.
Estimate: $52.2 million
$66m and rising. So let's talk Oscar nom! No, just kidding. But still, nice job by everyone involved.
Estimate: $18.2 million
And then there were the rest of the movies. Some folks out there don't have the top twelve making $100m, but I've got it cracking $115m. So I suppose I'm bullish?
Estimate: $7.7 million
The bottom eight films will make less than MJ's This is It. It's what we call a top-heavy field.
Estimate: $6.9 million
I don't mind that people loved this film. I'm okay with that, it takes a big movie lovin' universe to keep me employed. Just don't demand that I love it. Overt coercion is where I draw the line.
Estimate: $6.6 million
6. Saw VI
You wanna talk about a movie that's destined to plummet? You wanna talk about a film that's gonna have a tough time in this market? Watch what happens to this movie this weekend, BOOM!
Sorry, this segment has been brought to you by every NFL announcer ever. Estimate: $5.6 million
It's been finishing out of the top ten during the weekdays. But I see one last rally that gets it past G-Force on the 3-D charts.
Estimate: $3.9 million
Only two horror remakes have ever cracked $100m domestically, The Ring and The Grudge. No, The Stepfather will not be joining them.
Estimate: $3.5 million
9. Astro Boy
This is the weekend it enters Summit's all-time top ten, rocking Sex Drive's $8.4m box office romping back in '08.
Estimate: $3.3 million
10. Amelia
It gains 1,000 theaters this weekend. That should be enough to overcome the negative reviews, at least for a weekend.
Estimate: $3.2 million
