Blanchett Officially Joins Ridley's 'Gladiator'-Style 'Robin Hood'
The story has gotten a major makeover
I like Sienna Miller, but it's hard to say Ridley Scott's Robin Hood (once referred to as Nottingham) isn't packing a little more star power and acting cred now that Cate Blanchett has officially signed on to replace Miller in the vacated role of Maid Marian opposite Russell Crowe.
The news comes from Variety who says the story of the man that robbed from the rich and gave to the poor has "evolved into a Gladiator version of the Robin Hood legend" with the following story description:
Crowe plays Robin of Loxley in an origin story of Robin Hood that hews close to historical facts of the period. Abandoned as a child, he finds community with the common people of Nottingham. Robin's abandonment and trust issues hamper his ability to fall in love. He meets his match in Marian, a strong, independent woman.
The report also goes on to say the film will be shot at a $130 million budget, it will be shot in the U.K. and Scott will be aiming for a PG-13 rating.
Universal Pictures is releasing the film with an expected 2010 release date.
