Behold the Theatrical Trailer for 'Toy Story 3'

You've got a friend in me...

If you made your way to the recent Toy Story 3-D Double Feature you have probably already seen the new trailer for Toy Story 3, but for those of you that haven't, it has now arrived online for all to see and applaud.

Toy Story 3 brings back Woody the cowboy and all his toy-box friends as they are dumped in a day-care center after their owner, Andy, leaves for college. Michael Keaton and Timothy Dalton
are just two of the new voices added to the cast as Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 2 and Finding Nemo) takes over directorial duties.

The film is set to hit theaters on June 18, 2010.

Pixar not only have to overcome the stigma of bad third installments, but also how large time gaps in franchises are pretty much always detrimental.

This will be massive. The long time gap won't be a detriment since the movie is not coming off a mediocre predecessor, but is instead following up on 2 universally beloved films whose characters have stayed relevant throughout the years.

Damn, that trailer nearly brought a tear to my eye, especially the home video part of Andy growing up from a little kid to the onset of College. I'm confident this will be the perfect curtain call to this series.

That was a pretty resonant image when Woody climbed up a the dresser or something and got a full view of Andy's room, and realized that Andy is no longer a kid and he and the rest of the toys may no longer have a place in Andy's life. I expect this to be both funny and touching as is all Pixar fare-well, except for Cars.

I think this real-time gap in the franchise (where 10 years pass between the movies AND the story itself) will serve Pixar in as positive a way as it did with "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset." And I expect the sequel to be just as satisfying, or maybe even more so than Linklater's.

I don't know I'f I should be excited for this or not. Pixar hasn't dissapointed with sequels in the past, but with their schedule filling up so quickly it seems like they're doing something that i've dreadfully awaited for for a long time, and that is focusing on money. I don't know what to expect from this, but I'm just gonna set my expectations low so I'm not too dissapointed.

Indy 4 was mediocre which kept it from being the B.O. beast that everyone expected it to be. Besides, unlike Toy Story 3, Indy 4 was coming off 2 movies that while enjoyable, were notches below "Raiders." People overestimated the relevance of Indiana Jones too much, and it didn't help that the movie felt like they were just "mailing it in"

Besides, like what Heath said, Toy Story remained relevant despite it's absence in the big screen, MORE SO I believe than Indiana Jones. Just look at every toy aisle anywhere and you see kids flocking to Toy Story merchandise. Every Halloween, Buzz and Woody costumes can be seen everywhere. And go any Disney park and Toy Story character picture lines and rides are insanely long.

This will be epic. My kids weren't born yet when the first two were in theaters and they are mad about anything Toy Story.

The Indy 4 comparisons only end at the "time gap" in between movies, but it would be folly to expect Toy Story 3 to end up like Indy 4 (Unless George Lucas had a hand in it). Indy 4 played with the nostalgia factor of finally seeing Indy again which can only carry it so far. Toy Story 3 is promising the end to the series as the trailer hints at with Andy's college years having finally arrived.

400mil for Toy Story 3. During the time between Indy 3 and Indy 4, Indy was really non- existent in the public consciousness except for rabid movie fanboys. On the other hand, Woody, Buzz, and Toy Story were a heck of a lot more visible in the cultural landscape during the period between Toy Story 2 and today.

If there's someone who can put an end to the mediocrity known as "part 3's", it's Pixar. Spidey 3, Shrek 3, Pirates 3 etc etc. Based on that trailer, my fears are alleviated. That was beautiful and touching.

I want to be the skeptic as always and say that this will be a mediocre part 3 such as other part 3's in movie history, but you know what, I'm damn sick and tired of having to eat my own words at the end of the day with regards to Pixar. Ratatouille, UP, and Wall-E, knocked my socks off and no longer will I doubt those guys.

@Chauncey: Don't you think Peter Jackson and Paul Greengrass already did that?

@Jarren: Indy 4 may have been mediocre (personally I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I can understand why many people don't like it), but seeing as it grossed almost $800 million worldwide, how wasn't it a box office beast? And the second and third Indys (esp. third) are actually very similar to Toy Story films – LOADS of action, some great humor and the necessary level of depth (which only Last Crusade had, though).

@Nick:

Those hideous part 3's came after Return of the King, and the very good Bourne 3 is not enough from my vantage point of erasing the memory of the part 3's in 2007 and in the annals of movie history. There have indeed been a few-very few-exceptions, but part 3's have almost always have been terrible. Pixar's track record warrants confidence that Toy Story 3 will fall into the Return of the King and Bourne 3 category.
