‘Baby’, ‘Aviator’ and ‘Closer’ Big Winners at the 2005 Golden Globe Awards

The winners have been announced and we have the complete list.

The 62nd Annual Golden Globes are in the bag and there were some surprises and some to be expected and we have the complete list of winners for you here.

The night began with a couple of moderate surprises as Natalie Portman and Clive Owen brought home the globes for Supporting roles from the fantastic flick Closer, a psycho-sexual drama directed by Mike Nichols.

The top prizes of the feature film night found their way into the arms of The Aviator (Drama) and Sideways (Musical or Comedy). Sideways seemed to be the favorite as it is the critical darling of the year, and The Aviator was a toss-up as it faced a large list of possible selections, primarily my fav of the year, Million Dollar Baby.

Clint Eastwood brings home the Globe for his directorial duties on Million Dollar Baby, beating out critical fav Alexander Payne and the director of The Aviator, Martin Scorsese.

Top acting duties fell into the hands of Jamie Foxx (Ray) and Leonardo DiCaprio (The Avaitor). For both actors this was their first major award win and firmly pits the two in an award battle as the Oscar nominations loom just around the corner.

As far as the ladies go Annette Bening (Being Julia) and Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby) take home the top prizes, and while I haven’t seen Being Julia I can attest to Swank’s performance in Million Dollar Baby as absolutely amazing.

Sideways didn’t stop at Best Musical or Comedy as Payne was recognized for one accomplishment as he and his fellow scribe Jim Taylor were awarded the Globe for best Screenplay.

On the television side things were spread out amongst a loarge list of shows, but one win stood out in my mind as Glenn Close brings home her first Golden Globe after seven nominations for Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television, for her part in Showtime’s “The Lion in Winter.”
