Avnet Helming Pacino’s ‘88 Minutes’

Foley off, Avnet on.

It was a long time ago that 88 Minutes was announced, May 12, 2004 was the date the news came out of the Cannes Film Festival announcing Al Pacino as the star and James Foley as the director, then… we heard nothing.

Now, word has come down that Foley is off the project and Jon Avnet is aboard to helm the feature, which focuses on a college professor who moonlights as a forensic psychiatrist for the FBI. The prof must use his sleuthing skills to save his hide after he’s told that he’ll be killed in 88 minutes.

Avnet is probably best known as a producer, but he has stepped behind the camera once or twice including the hit film Fried Green Tomatoes.

88 Minutes was scripted by Gary Thompson who wrote such films as The Fast and the Furious and the NBC series “Las Vegas.”
