Arterton Confirmed as New Bond Girl

Oh boy, and we have a name too...

I typically wouldn’t write this article up, but considering there isn’t shit going on today and I still have to put the final touches on some DVD reviews and my latest Cinematic Revival article (Throne of Blood) I figured I may as well write up a confirmation article for news we all pretty much knew as The Hollywood Reporter has officially announced that Gemma Arterton has been cast as the new Bond girl in James Bond 22.

The news was first announced by Empire Magazine back on December 14, 2007, but at least now we know her character’s name, which is apparently “Fields”. Gotta wonder if they are going to go old school Bond and turn it some sort of sexual innuendo by making it Plow Fields or Shaved Fields… Details of her character were not available, but a Danjaq rep said “it’s a nice-sized role.”

Arterton is pretty much an unknown as she starred in the UK released comedy St. Trinian’s, where she played schoolgirl Kelly, opposite Colin Firth and Rupert Everett. The picture above is of Arterton as Rosaline in “Love’s Labour’s Lost” at New York’s Globe Theater.

Bond 22 picks up where Casino Royale left off with production currently underway in London.
