Aronofsky's 'Black Swan' Fills Out with Cassel, Ryder and Hershey

Still looking for distribution as shooting is just around the corner

Vincent Cassel, Winona Ryder and Barbara Hershey

Slash Film is reporting Vincent Cassel, Winona Ryder and Barbara Hershey will join Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis in Black Swan, the follow-up film for The Wrestler director, Darren Aronosfky.

The film centers on Nina, a talented ballerina (Portman) in the New York City Ballet who is tormented by a rival who might or might not be a figment of the dancer's imagination. Kunis would play the rival, Lilly, with strange occurrences between the two increasing as they prepare for a big performance.

Slash reports Ryder will play Beth, Nina's "sort of friend" who has been the school's running lead in all the productions, but who is nearing the end of her career. All the dancers are aiming to take her place as Odette, the Swan Queen, in the next big ballet: Swan Lake. Cassel will be playing the "handsome but sinister Yevna," the director of the new stage production. And Hershey will play Nina's mother.

To this point the supernatural thriller does not have distribution with production expected to begin shortly in New York City.

Looking good. It will be especially nice to see Winona Ryder again – great actress and rather underappreciated. She also looks quite similar to Portman – wonder if the film will play on that at all?

Great cast. I love Barbara Hershey. She should make more movies. And I agree with Tristan, Winona is so underrappreciated.

This is a dream movie. I've always wanted Winona and Natalie to do a movie together. I hope someday soon Winona, Natalie, and Keira will do a movie together. They all look like they could be sisters!
