Anton Yelchin is Chekov in ‘Star Trek’

This kid can act...

The only real great thing about Alpha Dog was the relationship between Justin Timberlake’s and Anton Yelchin’s characters and it looks like Yelchin turns in another good performance in Sony’s Charlie Bartlett. However, it looks like he is going to get another chance to shine, this time as a member of Starfleet as The Hollywood Reporter tells us he has been cast as Chekov in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek.

Yelchin is only the third official name announced for the project joining Zachary Quinton who plays Spock and Leonard Nimoy who is making a cameo appearance in the flick.

Casting is under way in New York and London for Kirk, Bones, Uhura, Sulu, Scotty, the film’s villain and the Federation captain. Abrams, who will helm the untitled film, is expected to sign bigger-name actors for the latter two parts.

There is no official start date as of yet, but the film is set to hit theaters on December 25, 2008.
