Aniston ‘Traveling’ To New Role

She can't be deterred...

Jennifer Aniston

Outside of Rachel on “Friends” I have never really thought of Jennifer Aniston as much of an actor. It looked like she may be able to get out of the romantic-comedy rut with Derailed, but that film didn’t do much and her recent decisions look like she is content with what got here here and never really allowing her to spread her wings.

Variety now reports she is set to star in Traveling with Aaron Eckhart, and while the film is described as a drama it just sounds like more of the same as she will play a floral designer who works in a Seattle hotel where a charismatic self-help guru is conducting a weekend seminar on coping with grief. As they get to know each other, she factors heavily into the guru’s realization that he practices none of the principles he teaches.

Oh boy, sounds like quite the doozy.

You know what would make this an amazing film? How about instead of some silly self-help guru, which is sure to be a highly generic character, we get Tom Cruise to bring back Frank T.J. Mackey and we make this a prequel story to Magnolia and bring on Paul Thomas Anderson to write and direct? If that were the case then I would have no problem with Aniston in the role because Cruise would dominate as Mackey. That would be interesting. All this sounds like is another movie in the vein of No Reservations and we really don’t need another one of those.

What we have here is writer/director Brandon Camp making his directorial debut instead. Yes, that was the excitement rushing out of the room.

Nevertheless, shooting begins early next year and the film will open to modest box-office and then fizzle. Yay.

I love guys like Brad Brevet who make 3rd grade level assumptions on something they haven’t read/seen/listened to first hand. Oh that’s right…he’s a "critic", not a creator of anything original. What a tit.
