'Angels and Demons' Will Have a Follow-Up Film, 'The Lost Symbol'

Robert Langdon isn't done finding crazy stuff

Variety reports Dan Brown's follow-up to his hit "The Da Vinci Code," which in itself was a follow-up to "Angels and Demons," will hit store shelves on September 15 and be titled "The Lost Symbol."

The book has already been picked up by Columbia Pictures as a follow-up to this summer's release of Angels and Demons, the Ron Howard directed adaptation starring Tom Hanks as Harvard religious expert Robert Langdon, a role he originally played in the 2006 adaptation of "The Da Vinci Code."

The first run of "The Lost Symbol" will run 5 million copies — the largest first print run in the history of Random House. Expectation would be for both Howard and Hanks to return, but the Variety article makes no specific mention of their signing, nor does it mention the storyline behind the upcoming novel.

Angels and Demons hits theaters on May 15, a sneak peek is included in this post.

You got it a little turned around there. Angels and Demons followed The DaVinci Code. That first paragraphy should read: "Variety reports Dan Brown’s follow-up to his hit "Angels and Demons" which in itself was a follow-up to “The DaVinci Code,” will hit store shelves on September 15 and be titled “The Lost Symbol.”

"Angels and Demons" was a hit?

@Patricia: Nope, Angels and Demons was published in 2000 and Da Vinci Code in 2003. Angels and Demons is definitely a hit novel… now. :)

OK, I'm thinking films. My book/novel radar was turned off. I love books but am not into this series. Thanks.

The original title of this book was "The Solomon Key", which sounds soooo much better than "The Lost Symbol." It sounds like a ten-year-old titled it.

@Scott:

Ha ha, I totally agree!

Um…yeah, I'm not feeling the whole "Angels and Demons" thing. I mean, I'm gonna see it, definitely (i'm one of the few who actually enjoyed "The Da Vinci Code" book and movie), but I'm sensing the whole "Prince Caspian" effect- the book isn't a household name like "Code" was (it's close but not close enough), it's sandwiched between two other, bigger and more popular franchises/movies ("Terminator" and "Star Trek"), plus the Word of mouth for the last film wasn't all that great.

Plus, prequels more often than not don't work. "The Hobbit" will, and "Star Wars : Episode 1,2,3" all worked, but that's the exception, not the rule.
