Alba Proves Talent isn’t Everything

They still continue to employ her

One thing I continue to hear and truly agree with is that, “Jessica Alba is absolutely beautiful.” However, the one thing I never hear is, “Jessica Alba sure can act.” Out of all the films Alba has been in, and I am referring to the ones that were in theaters, one out of nine of them has earned better than a 57% rating. The one movie that is over that mark and actually earns a “fresh” rating is Sin City and as Mick LaSalle of the “San Francisco Chronicle” puts it, “Jessica Alba, though she has trouble acting the role of a nightclub dancer, looks great in black-and-white.”

“Has trouble acting” are three words that should be on Alba’s resume followed or preceded by “looks great”. Of course in this world of looks mean everything in Hollywood Alba continues to work and work has found her once again as she is set to star as the female lead opposite Mike Myers in The Love Guru, which has been set for a June 20 release.

Joining Alba and Meyers will also be Verne “Mini Me” Troyer and Romany Malco whom most of you will remember as Jay, the “tackle drunk bitches” guy from 40 Year-Old Virgin.

In the film, the 44-year-old Myers will play Pitka, an American who was left at the gates of an ashram in India as a child and raised by gurus. After moving back to the U.S., he attempts to settle a rift between a hockey player (Malco) and his wife, who begins scoring with the star player of a rival team. Alba plays the hockey team owner and Troyer the team coach. Pitka’s job is to check that illicit romance and reunite the couple so the star player can lead his team to the championship.

You gotta admit, she is one of those actresses that is only getting work because she is gorgeous. There are plenty of women that are attractive out there that can also act… Alba’s presence only brings in MAXIM readers, and at this point that can’t be too many… Now that I think about it, does anyone "read" MAXIM?

I certainly don’t disagree that she’s getting roles due to her looks. Now that Jennifer Aniston getting close to 40 I guess Hollywood needs someone younger to fill her shoes. :-)

Funny thing about Aniston though is that she never really got much of a chance due to Friends. Alba really has very little competition in the "she looks good but can’t act at all" department. Truly, Alba is the one actress that makes me sorta cringe when she tries to act.
