2009 Golden Globe Awards Live Blog: Winners and Commentary

And we are go for live blogging...

5:00:18 PM: Inside the house… here comes the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards… yeah, you are excited.

5:01:20 PM: J-Lo starting things off?

5:01:48 PM: Kicking it off with Supporting Actress for Movies…

5:02:02 PM: Will Winslet take it from Cruz?

5:02:53 PM: Kate Winslet!

5:03:12 PM: I am now one-for-one in my predictions! Good start, and a happy one too… that's who I was rooting for.

5:03:50 PM: This is great, she is definitely pumped and a little flustered since she is pretty much known for getting nominated and not winning.

5:05:58 PM: Winslet has been nominated five times before and this is her first win and she can still win for Revoulutionary Road.

5:06:25 PM: Best Original Song award time… The Boss has this one right?

5:07:16 PM: Bruce Springsteen takes it for "The Wrestler" from The Wrestler. Man, I love that movie.

5:09:40 PM: Bruce Springsteen talks about a conversation he had with Mickey Rourke, it makes me want Mickey to win that much more, but can he take it from Sean Penn?

5:11:36 PM: Two for two on predictions… will the streak continue?

5:12:22 PM: I should say, two for two from the RopeofSilicon users as well and you guys had a couple different ones from me… Yes, we are battling it out. If you haven't seen the poll results yet get them here.

5:13:50 PM: Back from commercial break and the Eva Longoria and Simon Baker are presenting the Miss Golden Globe… Rumer Willis…. Hi Rumer! No offense to Rumer, but this is stupid.

5:15:04 PM: Supporting actor for TV time… I don't predict the TV stuff or even watch it so no worries. But "John Adams" has to come close to running the board doesn't it?

5:16:21 PM: Yup, Tom Wilkinson for "John Adams". I wouldn't be surprised if Recount gets some attention too.

5:17:51 PM: Eva and Simon also giving out Supporting Actress for TV stylee… Is this Laura Linney for "John Adams"?

5:18:59 PM: Nope, wrong category…

5:19:22 PM: But it's another Laura… Laura Dern for Recount. She was great in that flick you gotta check it out if you haven't seen it.

5:22:02 PM: Commercial break time…

5:23:25 PM: Oh Lord, a loving promo for the Globes and how much fun the celebs are having… If only you were having that much fun reading my silly comments. Sorry folks, no Tommy Cruise handshakes here. I do my best.

5:25:25 PM: Oh man, Don Cheadle just got introduced as the star of Hotel for Dogs. Now that is an insult.

5:25:49 PM: Cheadle is introducing Burn After Reading for Best Picture (Comedy/Musical) with a few jokes on how he has never been cast in a Coen film. But he will be in Iron Man 2, so, I guess that's something.

5:26:57 PM: Funniest line from Burn After Reading, "Ha, ha, ha… You think that's a Schwinn!"

5:27:18 PM: Eva Mendes… star of The Spirit… announcer insult #2

5:28:04 PM: She introduced the president of the HFPA. He is talking and that is about all I have for you. He kept it short and keeps us happy.

5:28:35 PM: Hayden Panettiere and Zac Efron announcing Actor TV Series… Gotta be Hamm from "Mad Men" right?

5:29:43 PM: Gabriel Byrne for "In Treatment", a Mark Wahlberg production. Don't you care about what happened to the bees?

5:30:16 PM: Star Trek cast out to announce something… Have the Globes always been a show that shills this much?

5:30:47 PM: Whoa, Anna Paquin takes Best Actress (Drama) for "True Blood"

5:32:52 PM: Did not see that one coming.

5:36:01 PM: Meryl Streep has been nominated for 23 Golden Globes. She has won six. She is up for two tonight. Will she win another or will Anne Hathaway and Sally Hawkins snatch 'em away from her?

5:37:58 PM: Ricky Gervais is up and very funny. Good joke with Winslet based on her performance on "Extras"

5:38:33 PM: Gervais drinking a beer and complaining about not being nominated is great as he introduces Happy-Go-Lucky.

5:39:18 PM: Oh boy, the Jonas brothers. Seriously, these are some weird guys.

5:39:39 PM: They are announcing animated winner… any guesses…

5:40:34 PM: WALL-E, no surprises, let's move on.

5:42:17 PM: Hey ladies, it's Johnny Depp here to announce Best Actress (Musical/Comedy)

5:43:08 PM: …and the winner is Sally Hawkins for Happy-Go-Lucky… I think that makes me four for four!

5:44:25 PM: Okay, Hawkins beats Winslet for most nervous… Happy to see her win.

5:45:03 PM: She is really trying not to cry…

5:47:29 PM: Another commercial break… Best Supporting Actor coming up… Ledger time…

5:49:50 PM: Since the Globes shill, so will I, check out the new trailers homepage when you get a chance.

5:51:51 PM: We're back and Jake Gyllenhaal is out to announce The Curious Case of Benjamin Button as a Best Picture (Drama) nominee… I can't wait to own that Blu-ray.

5:53:26 PM: Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore out to announce Best Mini Series/Movie for TV.

5:54:14 PM: I don't know much about this so I will go with "John Adams"…

5:55:27 PM: And "John Adams" wins, no surprise…

5:57:18 PM: Demi Moore comes out to announce Supporting Actor in a motion picture… any guesses? Why so serious?

5:58:25 PM: Here it comes folks… Ledger

5:59:02 PM: Chris Nolan is out to accept with the "You complete me" clip…

6:00:23 PM: Nolan refers to Heath's death as a "hole ripped in the future of cinema."

6:01:03 PM: Okay, six o'clock mark, gonna do a page break on the hours…

Great predictions

I predict Slumdog will sweep. If any of you haven't seen it find your nearest indie theatre and GO!
Not for the faint of heart though.

Glad Gabriel Byrne won. He is so very talented. If you ever have an opportunity to see him in theatre live do so. Keep the results coming. You are far more entertaining than the shows….all are a star studded snore fest. By the way did anyone else notice Tom Hanks wife's dress. She was pushed up in that dress. Goodness! Hey you should cover the inaugural events for us.

I think they could've waited 10 more years with Spielberg once he had managed to direct at least ONE more classic and 3/4 commercially successful garbage. Someone like Sidney Lumet seemed more fitting to me.

CONGRATULATIONS KATEEEE!
I'M SOOOO HAPPY FOR HER! That was very unexpected….I thought Meryl would get it?? Still, she truly does deserve it. I bet she's eccstatic. From what I've heard she's crying again. :( Poor darling. Too many awards in one night – she's not used to the attention lol…

Go Kate!

Thanks Ropeofsilicon for all the great blogging. Even though I got to watch the live broadcast, your blog, Brad, was a nice addition! I was very happy about the results – except for Best Picture (Drama). I mean, Slumdog Millionaire was brilliant – but there is no way it was better than Revolutionary Road (my pick for best Picture). Also, why the hell wasn't Gran Torino nominated for Best Picture? or Eastwood for Actor? Makes no sense.

Great broadcast – kudos to Mickey Rourke for his phenomenal comeback (the greatest of the decade). Also, could someone please let Ricky Gervais host the Oscars, Globes, Emmy's or some award show? His comments were actually funny. Instead, the Academy chose…..Hugh Jackman? The guy is eye-candy…not host-material.

Was very pleased to see real glamour return to Hollywood! So beautiful, graceful, classy were Kate Winslet, Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, Eva Mendez, Demi Moore… BRAVO ladies. JLo and Bionce however, should forgo the tight fitting, revealing, flashy dresses. They don't have the figure for it and the public and fashion critiques should be honest about it.
