2009 Golden Globe Awards Live Blog: Winners and Commentary

And we are go for live blogging...

Photo: HFPA

I had no idea if this was going to happen or not, but it did, it will and it is happening as I will be running down the festivities as well as updating the winners live. I will obviously be including winners in the blog and they will be highlighted in yellow as such, but you can also keep track of them right here. So, with that said, stay tuned as the show begins at 5:00 PM PST and 8:00 PM EST… I have a few things to do really quickly and will be back and updating as soon as possible.

4:24:29 PM: What is Tiki Barber doing reporting from the Golden Globes?

4:24:50 PM: Gotta admit, it is so nice to actually have an award show to talk about as opposed to last year's Golden Globe abortion.

4:26:29 PM: Denis Leary's family, that has to be an interesting household.

4:27:47 PM: I wonder – not Globe related since he's not nominated – but with the great box-office peformance for Gran Torino this weekend. if Clint gets an acting nom (which I think he will) does he become the front runner?

4:27:51 PM: Wow, based on all the interview questions this is going to be Heath Ledger's night. All the Dark Knight cast is getting the question…

4:29:13 PM: High School Musical kids… Yeah, they have a lot of interesting things to say.

4:30:22 PM: Drew Barrymore showed up to promote "Grey Gardens" to hell with the show itself. Jessica Lange, however, never ages… that must cost a TON.

4:32:32 PM: Dustin Hoffman, a lot of folks think he is the front runner for Best Actor (Comedy/Musical) according to a few pundits… Last Chance Harvey hasn't even screened here in Seattle. Really nice work promoting that one.

4:34:26 PM: Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleason are buddied up on the red carpet, it would have been cool to see them present an award as their characters from In Bruges… too tacky for the fancy pants HFPA though.

4:36:36 PM: Coffee break, gotta get everything set up before the actual show starts.

4:39:20 PM: Steven Spielberg, pretty much saying he isn't sure he is old enough to receive the Cecil b. DeMille award. Gotta say I agree, especially following up War of the Worlds and Indy 4… I mean, Schindler's List was a long, long time ago.

4:40:53 PM: Ahhh, Winslet looks great… we all know that though.

4:45:31 PM: Tommy Cruise and Robert Downey Jr. – Very nice!

4:46:12 PM: Talking about maybe doing a Les Grossman character feature for the Internet? Hmmmmm

4:47:26 PM: RDJ didn't seem too interested and said he couldn't hear… good out move.

4:48:31 PM: Lord, these red carpet interviews are so worthless… "How was it making that movie?" Just once I want someone to say it was terrible.

4:53:05 PM: Brosnan talking about singing in Mamma Mia… Tiki is nice to him…

4:53:47 PM: Salma Hayek… looks… NICE!

4:54:57 PM: Only six minutes to go as the celebs are ushered in at gun point.

4:56:22 PM: Theory: If Slumdog takes the Globe I can't help but believe Button will take the Oscar…

4:59:46 PM: The show is about to start so I am going to put in a page break so newcomers don't have to read all the meaningless red carpet chatter.

I love 30 Rock! It is one of the best shows currently on TV. Alec Baldwin deserved to win too. I also was hoping for The Office!

Great predictions

I predict Slumdog will sweep. If any of you haven't seen it find your nearest indie theatre and GO!
Not for the faint of heart though.

Refreshing my way through your blog via Pennsylvania!

Glad Gabriel Byrne won. He is so very talented. If you ever have an opportunity to see him in theatre live do so. Keep the results coming. You are far more entertaining than the shows….all are a star studded snore fest. By the way did anyone else notice Tom Hanks wife's dress. She was pushed up in that dress. Goodness! Hey you should cover the inaugural events for us.

I think they could've waited 10 more years with Spielberg once he had managed to direct at least ONE more classic and 3/4 commercially successful garbage. Someone like Sidney Lumet seemed more fitting to me.

CONGRATULATIONS KATEEEE!
I'M SOOOO HAPPY FOR HER! That was very unexpected….I thought Meryl would get it?? Still, she truly does deserve it. I bet she's eccstatic. From what I've heard she's crying again. :( Poor darling. Too many awards in one night – she's not used to the attention lol…

Go Kate!

Thanks Ropeofsilicon for all the great blogging. Even though I got to watch the live broadcast, your blog, Brad, was a nice addition! I was very happy about the results – except for Best Picture (Drama). I mean, Slumdog Millionaire was brilliant – but there is no way it was better than Revolutionary Road (my pick for best Picture). Also, why the hell wasn't Gran Torino nominated for Best Picture? or Eastwood for Actor? Makes no sense.

Great broadcast – kudos to Mickey Rourke for his phenomenal comeback (the greatest of the decade). Also, could someone please let Ricky Gervais host the Oscars, Globes, Emmy's or some award show? His comments were actually funny. Instead, the Academy chose…..Hugh Jackman? The guy is eye-candy…not host-material.

Was very pleased to see real glamour return to Hollywood! So beautiful, graceful, classy were Kate Winslet, Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, Eva Mendez, Demi Moore… BRAVO ladies. JLo and Bionce however, should forgo the tight fitting, revealing, flashy dresses. They don't have the figure for it and the public and fashion critiques should be honest about it.
