'Argo' and 'Silver Linings Playbook' Top 2013 ACE Editing Awards

Another feather in 'Argo's cap

2013 ACE Award winnersThe American Cinema Editors (ACE) handed out the 2013 Eddie Awards last night and the race didn't change too much, that is unless you were confused as to who the two primary front-runners heading into next Sunday's Oscars were.

Argo (edited by William Goldenberg, A.C.E.) and Silver Linings Playbook (edited by Jay Cassidy, A.C.E. and Crispin Struthers) won Best Edited Feature Film (Dramatic) and Best Edited Feature Film (Comedy/Musical) respectively. Brave won in the Animated category while presumptive Best Documentary winner, Searching for Sugar Man won in the Documentary category.

Of course, just to keep things interesting and ensure "Team Lincoln" didn't go home entirely empty handed, Steven Spielberg received the ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year honor presented to him by longtime collaborator and friend Kathleen Kennedy.

I've already updated the Oscar Overture with the wins for Argo and Silver Linings as the path for Argo to win Best Picture one week from today is looking more and more inevitable.

Unfortunately, it looks like Brave might take home the Oscar

    • Frank

What a disaster! Wreck It Ralph and ParaNorman are much more deserving than Brave.

Even The Pirates! Band of Misfits was better than Brave.

What was so great about the editing in Waiting for Sugarman? The best editing in a doc (in my mind) was The Imposter.

Glad to see Silver Linings get a little additional recognition in lieu of its likely small-win-total Oscar night. I predicted an Editing Oscar nom a few months ago and everyone seemed shocked when the nominations came out and SLP did, in fact, receive an Editing nom. If you go back and look at the film though, it's extremely well put together, both within story sequences and as a cohesive whole.

I was surprised that slp beat out some heavy , pleasantly surprised! I knew it was very well edited, I just didnt think the Eddies would award them.

In my opinion, there was really no competition for Silver Linings in the Eddies' Comedy/Musical category, save for Moonrise Kingdom, but the love for Moonrise died out a long time ago. As the only film in its category that is Oscar-nominated, the win here makes sense.

Hmm...well, good for slp then! Just a little bit more forward motion for the film and it's various entities.
