Applegate Starring in 'The Rocker'
Christina stars opposite Rainn Wilson in the comedy
Christina Applegate has been absent from film since Anchorman, a movie I didn't particularly like but did think Applegate held her own against Will Ferrell's antics. However it isn't because she has been hope doing nothing, nope she recently received a Tony nomination for her role as the title character in the Broadway musical "Sweet Charity," and in the fall she will star in the ABC comedy "Sam I Am." Until then she has found herself a role as the female lead opposite Rainn Wilson in The Rocker for director Peter Cattaneo and Fox Atomic.
Joining Applegate and Wilson will also be Jeff Garlin, Emma Stone, musician-actor Teddy Geiger, Jason Sudeikis, Jane Lynch and Demetri Martin.
The story centers on a failed, over-the-hill drummer (Wilson) who, 20 years after getting booted out of his now uber-famous band, gets a second chance at fame with a new act, a high school garage band headed by his nephew (Josh Gad). Applegate plays Wilson's love interest and the mother of the lead guitarist in the garage band.
The film was written by Ryan Jaffe with Wallace Wolodarsky and Maya Forbes penning a rewrite. Filming is set to begin June 18 in Toronto.
