Another 'Street Fighter' Movie?
Once you get to the end you start over again
In 1994 Universal Pictures released the feature film adaptation of Capcom's videogame "Street Fighter." The film starred Jean-Claude Van Damme and was made for a reported budget of $35 million and actually managed $33 million at the domestic box. Is this a success worthy of another go 'round? I would say no, especially considering the world forgot about "Street Fighter" a long, long time ago.
However, Ashok Amritraj's Hyde Park thinks differently as Justin Marks has been tapped to adapt the game into a new film witch will focus not on the men of the game, au contraire, but on the game's most popular female fighter, Chun Li, but the exact storyline is being kept under wraps. Hmmm, let me guess, we meet our star, she gets into trouble, meets a man and has to get out of trouble. Good thing the story is being kept under wraps.
The film is hoping for a 2008 release to coincide with the game's 20th anniversary. Hyde Park will be selling the project at the American Film Market, which unspools this week in Santa Monica.
