Another 'Dragon Tattoo' Candidate, Urban for 'Dredd' and More 'Transformers 3' Junk
Plus, Pixar called in to help out on Muppet movie
On Tuesday, I covered the crop of young actresses potentially in the running to star as Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but Roger Friedman at Hollywood News suggests an unknown French actress has now entered the fold. Her name is Lea Seydoux (pictured), and you might recognize her from her brief appearance in the opening scene of Inglourious Basterds as well as a small role in Ridley Scott's Robin Hood.
Bleeding Cool's Rich Johnston has the scoop that Karl Urban (Star Trek) is on the verge of being offered the lead in a new Judge Dredd movie. The long in the works reboot is said to be a much darker and more faithful comic adaptation than the 1995 Stallone movie, and will also be released in 3D. Somehow I feel like those are conflicting ideas.
You may recall from last week's news that the Pixar masterminds were brought in to rewrite portions of the Tron Legacy script. Well, now The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit is reporting the people behind Disney's upcoming Jason Segel starring Muppets movie are seeking the same assistance through a recent roundtable with Pixar's Brad Bird, John Lasseter and others. It's important to point out the Muppets project still hasn't received the green light, but perhaps this session will give Disney the reassurance they need. As one of the Tron roundtable attendees points out, "you're in the presence of people who have never had a misfire." Good point, especially since IMDb currently has the movie listed under the title of The Greatest Muppets Movie Ever Made. That's a lot to live up to.
Nelson Lauren, an admin from Shoot for the Edit (Michael Bay's Official Website), has issued a report from his visit to the Chicago set of Transformers 3 complete with a bunch of pictures of the cast and crew. The most notable element of the report is word Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's character is named Carly, a name JoBlo.com is a character from the Transformers animated series who eventually becomes Sam Witwicky's (Shia LaBeouf) wife. This means Megan Fox's character Mikaela wasn't as much replaced as she was dropped. Gotta wonder how that will be handled in the story considering the close ties Sam and Mikaela shared. Bay 'splosions!
Bill Zwecker of the Chicago Sun-Times has an interview with Transformers 3 director Michael Bay with Bay talking about why he chose to film in Chicago, even going as far as giving away some of the film's plot points. Bay told Zwecker that the Chicago footage "is at the very end of the movie and the city is under alien attack, so it's very critical and important to the film's climax." He goes on to explain "something very bad has happened to America – and this is at the very end of the movie."

I'm generally not liking the idea of them remaking The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Why? I mean why do they have to remake it when the original just recently came out? Just like they had to re-do Let the Right One In with Let Me In? Unneccessary if you ask me…
For one thing, most people don't like watching foreign films so the only way that very many people would see the movie at all would be if they did an English-language remake. The studios know that. That's why they do this kind of remake.
To be honest, the fact that it will be directed by David Fincher is the sole reason I'm not jumping on that bandwagon too prematurely.
Quess Bay is prepared for "Transformers 4" then. It might be a significant to the story to have someone who isn't just some random hooker as the love interest.
Nobody miss it or else we might have to put up with a stupid reboot.
An American version of dragon Tattoo doesn't have to go to france to find the perfect Lisbeth Salander. We have one here who, if cast against type, would be perfect..Ellen Page physically and acting-wise has the chops to do it and stun everyone. Somehow this idea has to get into Fincher's psyche or Page's agent-it would be an Oscar nomination if she could bring it off.
