And the Moody 'Watchmen' Trailers Continue
Will this be all build-up for little glory?
In the process of getting this one prepped for compression I caught the opening five seconds or so and can't help but get this continual vibe telling me Watchmen is going to be all style and little substance filled with so much slow motion we will want to watch it at 1.5x speed at home and boring us to tears along the way.
I hope I am wrong because the style director Zack Snyder has obviously brought is impressive, but I can't help but be a little skeptical. Of course, that may work to my benefit as I go into my screening expecting very little, and perhaps getting more than I ever expected.
All that said, here is the latest TV spot for Watchmen and you can check out the latest TV spot from Street Fighter right here if you are so inclined.

I also get that vibe from what i've seen, it's not that i think the film will be poor, it's just i'm not sure if i can stand any more slow motion or style over substance (as was the case with 300 in my opinion but i doubt this will have thin characterisation). It feels like it becomes redundant when its used so much and i am not anticipating what the music will be but if its in the same vein as 300 (rock music with a few orchestrals thrown in) then i'll be disappointed.
Here's hoping its better than my initial impressions
hey I got an idea!!! If you don't like the slow motion style that Synder uses or you are just getting bored with it then do us both a favor and do go see it so that there is one less person talking in the theater!!!
I'm still very optimistic about this movie. Sure I expect the characters and the plotlines to be dumbed down to a pretty noticeable degree, but I'm guessing the whole experience of watching it will be pretty enjoyable inspite of that. I personally think/hope Zack Snyder is a much more capable director than what was apparent from 300.
I'm thinking some of the slo-mo in the trailer is not going to be slo-mo in the movie. As for the style-over-substance? Well, Zack Snyder has proved he is VERY good at directing style. But substance? Well, there wasn't much substance in "300"–it was basically an all-out action film, wildly envisioned and wildly executed. But this time the source material has a great deal of substance! And the movie is 163 minutes! If Zack Snyder was trying to go for style alone, he should know he could retain it for that long. So I'm banking on the idea that the immense substance in the graphic novel will also be in the film.
This being a Warner Bros. release really helps. They're very good about allowing their directors freedom to tell the story the way they want it told.
@JM: I'm with you. I don't think that the lack of substance in 300 can be laid entirely at Snyder's feet.
I still can't wait for this one. I'll definitely be there opening day.
