'Anchorman 2'? Sure. Why Not? Let's Just End Originality Now

Stop encouraging them!

Sometimes I wonder if online "reporters" would just stop asking about needless sequels would we actually stop getting them?

I mean, really? What will Anchorman 2 offer that the first one didn't? Wasn't Wake Up, Ron Burgundy already a sequel or was it just more garbage just like the movie? I don't know… I haven't watched it and haven't watched the first Anchorman since suffering through it the first time.

Adam McKay, the director of Anchorman as well as the equally awful Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby told Collider that he wants to do a sequel. He actually said, "Will [Ferrell] and I are like let's do Anchorman 2… so you're talking like 2 years maybe we'll do it. But we're going to do it, for sure."

For sure? Like, fa reals?

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. We're dying to do it," McKay continued. "Unless we can't get the cast together, which is always kind of a tricky thing. But, I think, with that cast we're all friends, so yeah, we want to do it."

What's it going to be about? Who the hell knows, but I already have a feeling typical rules will apply. The first film featured Ron Burgundy (Ferrell) as a popular '80s news anchor, the obvious direction this will go is to turn him into a … popular '80s news anchor! Ah snap, no I di'n't!

Yeah, and you know where the third film in the franchise fits in… the '90s. Burgundy is getting old, they are trying to push him out but they just can't get rid of him. It's the way of the world and predictable as hell. Of course, I could be wrong and it turns out great. But that would mean I was wrong, which we all know could never be.

You really must dislike Will Ferrell. Anchorman, to me, ranks in the top ten comedies of all time and Talladega Nights (while not as good as Anchorman) ranks as one of the best of this decade. I fully understand that he plays basically the same character in virtually every film he stars in, but who cares? He is funny and people like him. I say let him make what he wants to make.

I agree, at least about Anchorman, I love it, and is definitely in my top ten comedy list(along with movies such as the Jerk and Dumb &Dumber)…Talladega Nights though…not so much.

Will Will Ferrell ever stop? I know the man can be funny, but an entire movie is too much for me. It would be great if he actually played someone entirely different each time, but that doesn't seem to happen.

He's got a following, so obviously he can continue as he pleases…. but don't the "Ferrellers" ever get tired of the same character, time and time again?

  4. You can't really tell someone that something is funny if they don't think it is but uh, yeah, Anchorman is freaking funny. Have you no soul?

  5. That is the problem with me lately… I don't find any of the new "comedies" funny. I thought In Bruges was funny as hell and probably the best comedy I have seen since Wedding Crashers (which fell apart in the end). Actually, In Bruges may be the best comedy I have seen since I loved Dumb and Dumber way back when Jim Carrey was still funny.

Unfortunately, as you say, you can never really critique someone's sense of humor. Either you find it funny or you don't. In the case of Anchorman… I don't.

  6. Wedding Crashers is one of the funniest first hours to any movie I've seen. But its amazingly unfunny in the last act.

I can't wait to see In Bruges, I let it slip passed me but I thought it looked great.
