Abrams Talks More 'Star Trek XI'

You don't have to be a Trekkie to enjoy it

I am anxious to find out what exactly J.J. Abrams has planned for Star Trek XI and all this hush-hush stuff is extremely frustrating, and if it does turn out to be a prequel with young Kirk and Spock I will go from frustrated to upset. A prequel doesn't work, yeah, sure the Star Wars prequels made money, but we all know they were the worst of the bunch, and with Star Trek we don't exactly have a "birth of Vader" type of scene.

So, with that rant out of the way, Entertainment Weekly has up a new mini-interview with Abrams in which he confirms a draft of the script is done, and it will be trimmed sometime soon. Plot details are still kept at nil, but he does say that it is a story that even non-Trekkers can enjoy.

On the one hand, for people who love Star Trek, the fix that they will get will be really satisfying," he says. "For people who've never seen it or know it vaguely, I think they will enjoy it equally, because the movie does not require you to know anything about Star Trek. I would actually prefer [that] people don't know the series, because I feel like they will come to it with an open mind."

The article ends with a quote saying, "I can't wait to do this… It is an absolute thrill to work on this project. We really are still like, 'How the hell are we able to do this?'"

Star Trek XI is currently set to be released in 2008. Already word has circled around Matt Damon for young Kirk and there is even talk the Shatner and Nimoy may have some part in it. My guess is that it is all BS, but we will have to wait and see.
