Abrams Producing, Writing and Directing 'Star Trek 11'?!?!?
Really? Wow, talk about a step up!
Wow, this one I did not see coming and yet here it is. Variety is reporting that "Alias" and "Lost" creator J.J. Abrams isn't leaving the world of feature films once things involving Mission: Impossible 3 are done. Nope, he is all set to produce, write and direct the 11th installment in the Star Trek franchise with an eye on a 2008 release.
Damon Lindelof and Bryan Burk, Abrams' producing team from "Lost," also will produce the yet-to-be-titled feature. While he will be joined in the script-writing room by his M:I 3 script co-horts Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
I hate to admit it, because it sounds so geeky, but I have become a bit of a Trekkie myself as I continually watch the original series on DVD, which is why the story idea behind this one is also intriguing.
The film will center on the early days of seminal "Trek" characters James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, including their first meeting at Starfleet Academy and first outer space mission.
Count me in, I am ready for this one although I am not too sure about the prequel part.
