A 'Twilight'er Joins 'X-Men,' First Look at Cruz in 'Pirates 4' and Daft Punk's 'Tron Legacy' Score Gets Teased
Plus a look at the 'Yogi Bear' poster
To begin this round-up, Radar Online has some rather disappointing photos of Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. I say disappointing because my fantasies had me envisioning Penelope in a much sexier pirate outfit. Then again, my fantasies aren't produced by Disney. Click here to browse them all.
Taking a role that was offered to Sam Worthington last month, Vulture is reporting that Tom Hardy (Inception, Bronson) has signed on to star alongside Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon in the espionage/action/romantic comedy This Means War for Fox and director McG. Hardy and Pine will play rival spies who wage war on one another when they both fall for the same woman (Witherspoon). In my opinion, Hardy is awesome and seems poised to become the next leading man of the moment (like Jude Law, Christian Bale and most recently, Sam Worthington before him), but didn't Knight and Day pretty much prove that this genre has been run into the ground? Perhaps that extra male ingredient will adjust the formula enough to make this one feel fresh.
Just to the right we have the latest Transformers 3 video update, where you feast your eyes on all sorts of explosions in the streets of Chicago as well as footage of Shia LaBeouf wearing a leather jacket in the middle of July. And if you like that why don't you click here and get an article on the production courtesy of the Airmen at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M.
Australian musician Nick Cave has recently become one of the most sought after screenwriters in the business after gaining acclaim for his screenplay for John Hillcoat's fantastic western The Proposition. He was even contacted at one point by Russell Crowe to write a sequel to Gladiator. The Wrap is now reporting that Cave has been hired to rewrite the script for a remake of The Crow, which was previously completed by Stephen Norrington (Blade). I like Cave's work, but I don't think I'm alone in thinking that The Crow is a movie that needs to be left as is. Hell, that thought could be considered moot seeing as how three pointless sequels have already been made since the Alex Proyas/Brandon Lee classic. Anyway, the screenplay suggests that this version would take place in two settings – the southwest and an urban area.
Mike Fleming at Deadline has the news that Edi Gathegi has joined the already massive cast of X-Men: First Class as Darwin, a biracial mutant who has the power to adapt to any situation or environment (a skill set that would surely make him the life of any party). He's most widely known as one of the evil vampires from the Twilight movies, but he's most recognizable to me as "Cheese" from Gone Baby Gone. I've got really high hopes for this prequel.
StopTheNoise (via SlashFilm) delivers six tracks from Daft Punk's score to Tron: Legacy, and all of them sound outstanding and have been embedded in this post just to the right. I love the standards like Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer (seriously, how awesome was that Inception score?) just as much as the next person, but I'm always excited to hear a score from an musical artist who isn't really known for such things. This one and Trent Reznor's score to The Social Network are two special treats that I'm really looking forward to.
There's even more media, as Latino Review has gotten hold of Josh Hutcherson's audition for the role of Peter Parker in the upcoming Untitled Spider-Man Reboot. As you may have heard, Hutcherson (The Kids Are All Right) was once considered among the finalists for the role but lost out to Andrew Garfield. Still think Garfield was the correct choice? Click here to check out the video of Hutcherson laying waste to a group of high-school tough guys and decide for yourself.
In the midst of some American Idol judging rumors, Deadline's Nikki Finke is reporting that Justin Timberlake (who we'll soon see in The Social Network) has been offered the lead role in the sci-fi movie I'm.mortal for director Andrew Niccol (Lord of War, Gattaca). The pop star and budding actor would star alongside Amanda Seyfried in the film, which is set in a futuristic society in which aging stops at 25 and those who can continue to pay are immortal while the poor struggle to stay alive.
Speaking of Timberlake, here's our first look at the poster for Yogi Bear, and if you like that be on the lookout because tomorrow we'll have the first trailer from the film, which hits theaters on December 17.

shia really struggled with that camera..
Haha thats exactly what I tell everyone when I see him in the Twilight movie and they're like "Who the Fuck is Cheese?". He was awesome as Cheese though. He was on-screen for about 5-6 minutes, but he stole his scenes.
"I don't know nobody getting kill. But if somebody rob me and end up dead… well, you know…….Life a motherfucker".
I know I wasn't likely to ever see it anyway unless trapped into watching it with my nephew, but the lack of effort that went into that Yogi Bear poster kind of annoys me. It's a bunch of separate elements unconvincingly photoshopped together around some very questionable cgi characters. I know that not every children's property can be done to Pixar standards, but this just seems like studios saying to parents "we don't even have to try when it comes to taking your family entertainment dollar."
So the video for Hutcherson gives me no reason for him to be in the movie. He gives one face the entire video. Tobey Maguire will always be Peter Parker to me. Plus, I think Garfield is a better actor than Hutcherson.
I like Josh Hutcherson, but I don't think he fits the Parker role at all. Garfield is a good choice.
It's gotta be a pain in the ass living in Chicago when movies are being shot, with all the streets they close off and whatnot.
Okay, so I have a question. Are these separate tracks, or are they supposed to be played together? Because when you play one and two together, simultaneously, it sounds pretty damn cool. But alone…kinda boring. I'm probably just over thinking things.
Wow, now that you point that out is does sound pretty cool. They even build at almost the same point. Still, I'm pretty sure they are separate tracks.
I can see what you mean about them being boring, but I really like the general feel of the sounds. I'm sure it will be much more powerful in movie theater sound system.
And tracks one and two have the same running time. Hmm.
Since when did Yogi have fangs?
Also I thought CLICK HERE on the opening paragraph was a link to a list of your fantasies….disappointing….
And isn't it nice that Shia L. took the time to correct that picture for that kid? He looks at it, finds out that the first pic he snapped only had the kid's face in it, so he asks him how to zoom the camera out, and retakes a picture so you can see both of them. I don't know if any other star would take the time to do that. Cool and classy, in my opinion.
I got a good giggle out of that.
I would've went with Josh Hutcherson. The other guy looks like another repeat of the thankfully past, bad casting of Tobey McQuire as Spider-Man before.
Plus people actually know his name…
I still think Maguire was amazing as Parker. Maybe you didn't like the movie, but Maguire made a huge career jump with those movies. And contrary to your opinion, most of the names where not widely known. Garfield was a primarily british actor while Hutcherson is kinda becoming larger due to the kids are alright. And just two last things:
1. Daft Punk makes tremendous music and I hope the score will be a saving grace to the reboot of Tron.
2. Tobey Maguire not McQuire.
That Yogi Bear poster is hilarious! It's like it's saying "I dare you NOT to think this movie is going to suck!" LOL
