A Third 'Bridget Jones' is On the Horizon

It could work... I stress 'could'

I was one of the few people that didn't have much of a problem with Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. Sure it wasn't a masterpiece, but it was certainly watchable and had a fair share of laughs. However, I can't say I necessarily stand by the B+ I gave the film back in 2004 when I scarcely knew what I was doing, but in reading the review over again I can't say it was entirely off base. One thing is for certain, back when I started this site my reviews were far more congratulatory and I made much larger statements than a film often warranted.

In the review I said Edge of Reason was "just as good, if not better than the first film" which isn't exactly untrue as much as it ignores the fact the two movies are too similar to be distinguished from one another. It's this detail that makes me wonder if a third Bridget Jones film is worth exploring, but that seems to be exactly what Working Title is up to.

Variety reports the production company is developing a third film with Renee Zellweger set to return in the starring role as a British publishing exec struggling to find love.

While no details are available and the project is just now coming together, speculation leads Variety's Ali Jaafar to assume the film would be based on the weekly columns author Helen Fielding wrote in 2005 for British newspaper the Independent in which Bridget, now in her 40s, attempts to have a baby before it's too late. Neither a writer nor a director have been attached to the project.

Based on current movement speculation is the film may get started toward the end of 2010.
