What surprises does the night have in store?

2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards Live Blog

We are back again for our second live blog of the 2013 awards season and tonight it's the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards and it's sort of fun to say that tonight there is actually a reason to watch and pay attention for anyone the least bit interested in the awards race.

Will Best Ensemble go to Lincoln? Argo? Silver Linings Playbook?

Will it be Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook) or Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) taking home Best Actress?

And what about Supporting Actor? will it be Robert De Niro (Silver Linings Playbook), Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master) or Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln)?

I think it's safe to assume Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln) and Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables) will go home winners tonight, but otherwise it's a wide open show.

You can check out the full list of nominees for both movies and television right here and the results of the RopeofSilicon reader predictions here. Otherwise, the live blog begins directly below and continues over the next several pages for the rest of the night.

Just refresh the page every so often for our updated posts as we have already ventured to PAGE TWO of tonight's live blog.

  1. Good stuff. I am liking this set-up a lot. I think we all can agree that the SAG Awards are the must-watch event of the year! I'm so excited, I can't eat! haha. Here's hoping for something exciting.

  2. Justin says:

Do you think Giuliana goes home after this, stares into a mirror and cries?

So much money on her journalism degree wasted.

  3. Anthony_X says:

Jennifer Lawrence looks stunning in the blue dress, but her face looks drained. I fear she might collapse. Harvey is killing her to get her the Oscar

  4. Fox says:

Aren't the Outstanding Action Performances by Film and Television Stunt Ensembles usually the last awards to be presented? I feel like I don't even have to watch anymore. . .

  5. Ian says:

Checking in from outside Richmond, VA and rooting strongly against Silver Linings Playbook.

For what it's worth, CNN is also covering the red carpet if E is just too unbearable.

  6. William says:

Just saw today, back-to-back, Winter's Bone and Silver Linings Playbook. Jennifer Lawrence needs to win something tonight. She's very, very good at what she does.

  7. Fox says:

I'm watching a stream of the AP coverage. It's absolutely brutal. The interviewers don't seem to understand they have to speak into the microphone, so all the viewers get is "Yes .. . Definitely.. . .For sure. . "

  8. TJ says:

Excited to see who wins best supporting actor and best essemble. My vote is DeNiro for supporting and Lincoln for essemble. Although I would really like to see Argo or SLP take essemble causing the Oscars to be even more exciting. Should be a good awards night if we can get past this pre-show.

  9. Ian says:

Hey Brad, we may disagree on Silver Linings but at least we both agree that Django is the year's best film. As for Laremy putting Silver Linings at #1...I disagree, but I respect your opinion, even when it's wrong :D

  10. Bradley says:

Anyone know of a site that's streaming the actual show? UK bound here - and I'm really slogging it. I just want to see a Chastain win.

  11. Ryguy815 says:

Crap, I'm gonna miss part of the show because I have to finish my book tonight and I have 17 pages left and there's no way I'll finish before the show starts!!!

  12. Fox says:

  13. everything about this is bad. I know I set the bar high by watching UFC last night. Ya know something that was actually entertaining....but god damn this is dumb.

  14. Ryguy815 says:

I'm missing this entire show right now because their starting the show late where I am so they can show some make-up show.. Why would they do that????

  15. Justin says:

Just tell us how awesome Side Effects is so we don't have to constantly mute the TV and close our eyes. We look like idiots over here!

  16. Xarnis says:

    (On Claire Dane's Speech)

Friend: "Wow! She's on drugs, she's just rambling like a fool"

Me: "Maybe she's excited or nervous"

Friend: "She's not nervous. She's an actor"

  17. Justin says:

There are a lot of people here who don't understand hashtags. Also, it's the SAG awards people, lighten up. There is no reason to be taking this seriously.

  18. If Django Unchained was nominated for best ensemble, what do you think would be its chances for winning it? Waltz, DiCaprio, Jackson, Foxx.... just epic performances

  19. Though I was rooting for Jessica Chastain, I figured a competition between Chastain and Lawrence is one I can't complain about. Two great young actresses who gave two great performances. Congratulations to Jennifer Lawrence!

  20. Corey says:

I love Bradley Cooper because, like me, he was just another acting school student who made it. But I also hate Bradley Cooper, because like me, he was just another scting school student, WHO MADE IT! ;)

    • lalecture says:

Me too, I really think all of this Argo-ness in this case is a vote miscast. Slp had the best ensemble. I wonder whether the vote for best ensemble gets translated into "best picture" for these actors...
If so, I think it does a disservice to the spirit of the category

  22. Xarnis says:

Wow, I really liked Argo, but the performances were the weakest part of the movie. Lincoln and Silver Linings deserved it more.

I'll still be happy when Argo wins Best Picture, however

    • lalecture says:

Yes, I would be very pleased if Argo wins best picture. I just don't think Lincoln is the best picture of the year. And if zd30 wins, that would be a misdiagnosis.

  23. I really do think that the Affleck snub just caused a big chain reaction or sympathy voting. The Academy thinks differently. Argo is good but not the years best film. I'd rather take any of the other nominees. This is a phase. Argo may be loved, but so is Lincoln, Les Mis, Lincoln, and Silver Linings. We shall see. It's not as sewn up as we may think.

  24. Chris138 says:

Yeah, I think Argo is going to take home the Oscar. Especially after winning the PGA and SAG ensemble in two days. It's nowhere near my favorite movie of the year but I like Ben Affleck's enthusiasm, so I guess I'm not that bothered if it wins.

  25. Thanks Brad for providing a website for me to spout nonsense. This format.....could use improvements. I'm sure Vince @ FD could hook you up with the Uproxx way of doing it. It's better. Also Laremy I hope your best friend is well. You and Bugsy are missed. TTYL HAGS #ROPEOFSILICON

  26. Kessler says:

The real surprise on Oscar night will be who ends up winning Best Director. That is if Affleck wins the DGA.

I think I'm in the minority, but I'm happy Argo won and will be even happier if it wins Best Picture. :)

  27. Mikey says:

Dammit! I was really hoping we would go into Oscar night unsure of who would win Best Pic... The lack of a directing nom means there's still hope for an upset... Oh well, at least I actually like Argo.

  28. Jordan B. says:

Brad, do you think the Academy's snubbing of Affleck for Best Director has given Argo a boost with all of these awards? Or would it have done just as well even if Affleck were nominated?

  29. adu says:

Laremy, hope everything is ok with your dog. Brad, you did a good job without him... these awards in particular dont seem to have much going on. That Argo and Jennifer Lawrence win really has me excited for the Oscars now.

    • lalecture says:

Me too, especially since the votes are still not in for the oscars.
In your opinions, how much of a chance do Argo and Lawrence have after tonight's results?

  30. TJ says:

Thanks for taking the time to do another entertaining awards blog guys! Laramy, Im glad Bugsy is doing better. It's surprising Argo won best essemble, but Im so glad it did. It is a bummer it most likey shuts the door on SLP winning best picture. Looks like a race between Argo and Lincoln with Argo being the favorite now. Should be the most exciting Oscar night we've had in years!

    • TJ says:

I apologize for spelling your name wrong, Laremy. It won't happen again. :)

Oh and btw, I'm so glad Cranston got some awards love finally for Breaking Bad. You guys need tow atch that show ASAP!

      • lalecture says:

I'm just glad homeland dint sweep! Apparently I'm in the minority, but it is not the BEST tv drama, and Damian Lewis is in no way the best actor in a tv drama.
And I watch all of those shows.
I know most of you guys don't watch Downton abbey, but it does grow on you.
Breaking bad is a really clever show.
        I'm glad for Bryan Cranston.

    • lalecture says:

I have enjoyed scrolling through this blog. I could not join you all during the live blog because I am such a wimp about knowing the results before I see them live. You should see me with sports. I can get down right obnoxious!

  31. Noe says:

Reading this blog was tremendous fun... Now let's just hope the Oscars get it right and award Silver Linings Playbook for best picture. Argo is simply accumulating awards left and right due to Ben Affleck's best director snub nomination. It was by no means the best ensemble! Blasphemy! Happy for Jennifer Lawrence though; however, I have a feeling she'll loose the Oscar to Riva (hope I'm wrong though). Cheers.
